HEY GUUUUUUYS!

I hope you're doing amazing!

Here's something completely unusual that I thought I would never share, but now I think it'd be fun to see what you guys think!

So sometimes my brain will refuse to work in front of a blank script page. That's when I head to photoshop and have a blast with the scene I'm supposed to write!

I draw it in a silly sketchy way and it somehow truly breaks monumental writing blocks for me! It might be because I'm a very visual person and I love to draw (no wonder) and sometimes feel cornered by the "stiffness" of just writing words.

Most of the new book is being written using this new method and it's been so much fun!

I can't show you too much, but here are a few honorary moments from my silly "writing technique!"

I'd love to hear what you think!! What are your tricks for fooling writer's block?

THANK YOU ALL SO SO SO SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE!!

I love these sketches!! They're so silly and so expressive, it definitely seems like you had fun drawing them! 🥰 I think this is such a unique and creative way of writing stories! It's so cool to know that Book 2 is being written like this! This is such a cool little "behind the scenes" post! 👀 Keep up the amazing work Skailla!! I know Book 2 is going to be AMAZING!! 💖

OOOH, now THIS is smth I’d love to see more often!!! As a writer, getting to look at the behind-the-scenes process for how you craft your masterpieces is always a treat! Sketching out scenes is a great way to break through writer’s block. I already have a ton of theories about this page! the red ones with Martin really intrigue me the most. It almost seems like Martin is gonna have a Shut Eye moment of his own, and might get deceived by the Devil’s fog. Now would be the most dangerous time for her to try and lure our beagle to move on from Oddwind right when he’s needed most! Everyone’s favorite henchman love mocking Steban, so maybe they found out about the compass or are taking the time to throw his past baggage on him. The Wishbone scenes also look hilarious! “the road to every success” Hmm, that could be the Bull King? We know he has an eye on his poncho. Also, “Is this your fault” definitely seems to sound like Martin. He’s finally starting to figure out Steban is much deeper in the mud than he thought! The only one I don’t get is the final one on the bottom right. Why would Martin be chewing out Steban to the point of tears?

Oh, this is amazing! I always love seeing the process behind No North and its characters and story. Sometimes even the smallest or least detailed sketches can form and tell the most intricate stories, and I can’t wait to hear each one! I relate to having to draw out the expressions or visually what’s happening before I can write it out in words. I couldn’t imagine writing and drawing and making a whole world and story with its own characters and their own lives so much different from your own, from the ground up! You’re doing such a good job! Hope you have a nice week and a pleasant evening, Raquel!

WOW!! That is amazing!! I love characters and poses! And oh my god, IS THAT FYODOR DOSTOYEVSKY?! WHOLESOME! And the small thing with the book in the corner on the left might be Martin as a puppy? Awww🥹 can’t wait to see that in the book!

FYODOR DOGSTYEVSKY I LOVE IT. And what an imaginative story you’re cooking up! Can’t wait to see the end the result!
