Silver Lining - Page Test! (Patreon)

HEEEY GUYS!

Happy test page day!

I hope you're all doing super super well!

So here's a little test I've made kind of based on Matthieu Bonhomme's style, specifically on his version of the Lucky Luke's comics. I ended up going off track in the end, but kept the black lineart on both the characters and parts of the background. I'm still learning and testing out more stuff - yes, more test pages coming soon!

This scene is not from the next book (I'm really trying to avoid spoilers on the test pages!) but I see it happening in the future. It was mostly based on the song Silver Lining by First Aid Kit

I would absolutely LOOOOVE to hear your thoughts on this page! You guys are awesome and I can't thank you enough for your incredible support!!!

This looks AMAZING!!! I really love this style!! 🤩 I really like the expressions on Martin and Steban. You can definitely tell that they've both been through a lot, especially Martin. But I love how Steban is still optimistic and does his best to motivate Martin no matter what! I can't wait to see how they find that "silver lining" 👀 The background is STUNNING as well! I really like this style! The colors are so vibrant and beautiful and they fit the mood very well! The darker colors around Martin, symbolizing that he's lost his hope and energy, and the brighter colors around Steban, who's still optimistic and ready to continue on. It's perfect! The lighting is gorgeous as well! ✨ I can't wait to see the upcoming test pages! I really like seeing the different art styles you try, they're all so cool! Keep up the AWESOME work Skailla!! 💖

I like this style. I really love the style you’ve been working with lately, but this is a cool one to. The lighting is beautiful and the background is more crisp.

What a gorgeous page!! The highlight for me is for sure the color scheme used here. The sunrise is fantastic, and the red and green hues really compliment each other! I also love the harsh lighting, and how it creates deep shadows and highlights on the duo. The background itself also looks incredible!! I absolutely adore the watercolor feel to it, and the way everything blends so calmly. The mountain is also breathtaking, and really adds to the grandiose wonder of No North that you're trying to capture. It really looks like it belongs in an old 2D animated movie, and it's easily my favorite part of your new style! I prefer this backgrounds to your hyper-detailed style from the first book. As for the lineart on Steban and Martin itself, I really have been enjoying your sketchy style you've been using lately, especially the one on your recent Steban/Delilah sketches. Like Znydragon, I personally prefer that style to the more clean one on this page. That's just my opinion though, and I will love the comics no matter what style you choose!

OHHH I LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH!!! When I was reading the dialogue I went, you know what song this reminds me of? And then I said, well there’s no way Raquel knows that song, it would be such an awesome coincidence. AND THEN IT WAS! IT WAS AN AWESOME COINCIDENCE! You’ve introduced me to a lot of songs I love, and we have such a similar music taste, every time I see you like a song i like I get so excited!! And I loved this test page so, so much- not only does it take place in a forest, but it has such beautiful lighting and such an amazing exchange between Steban and Martin! It really shows what Steban believes in, what he thinks. And I can’t get over how beautiful his words are!! The mountains and sky and clouds (eee the mountains and clouds!!) everything are just indescribably gorgeous. Every bit of your art holds so much passion and beauty and life and it is just incredible! This was a fantastic test page, I loved every bit of it! Great job!! P. S. I’m also going to a renaissance fair soon! I’m so excited, and your post about going to Obido’s medieval fair really helped me, especially with outfits!! Thank you!

This is absolutely a beautiful and stunning page. I really like this style it looks amazing and the glow of the sunset in the background looks gorgeous. Lovely to see our duo again, and nice to see Stevan remain positive. Amazing work as always Skaila! Looking forward to book 2 ☺️☺️☺️

Hey Skai!! I wanted to take back what I said earlier about the line art. After looking at it some more, I think this style really grows on me!!! I think the black ink compliments the background perfectly, all while keeping a sketchy, free-spirited style. I apologize for the confusion, and I really think this is the best looking page test I’ve ever seen!!!!

Well, that is unexpected…for me… Page looks…great…characters, backgrounds…but…it’s sad that you won’t use your detailed style anymore…😢 I loved it so much…… But, okay…that is your decision and I will respect it, at least because you are my idol❤️
