It's been a long time since I played this part of the game, but I do remember that in the anime, they changed Fujimaru's reasoning for continuing to fight. It wasn't because of glory or desire to be a hero. If I remember correctly, it was just plain survival. So he gets no enjoyment from the struggle or combat. Also, I really would've loved to see the actual catch there. Like Quetz's expression changing as she realizes that he's about to plunge to his death and deciding to catch him.
