Don't worry about being confused here, you seem to have gotten everything that seems to be important. Just keep watching and take everything at face value for now. The flashback scenes at the start of this episode will be talked about in Bake and are the events that happened during spring break. They'll be shown in the movies. As for watchorder, don't worry about it too much. Watching the movies after Bake is fine and then just do the rest in release order. That's by far the easiest and most digestible way to go through the show.

These subs are a bit heavy, so they’re harder to understand. Download the batch from MTBB — they’re considered the best.

I get that it is definitely confusing at first, dont worry about it. I think it is intentional and a lot of it is supposed to add to the mystey factor of the show that wants you to put everything in place step by step. Things i think might be good to know and keep in mind for now: Characters: Koyomi Araragi - Ex-Vampire, Protagonist, Narrator Tsubasa Hanekawa - "Class Pres", koyomi's (only) friend, been through some shit we dunno but koyomi does, but doesn't tell us more... yet Hitagi Senjougahara - "mean" girl, used to be very popular, outgoing and the ace of the track team, weightless - apparently because of a "weight crab"-god that she unknowingly asked to remove her weight Meme Oshino - Mysterious dude, seems very knowledgable about supernatural stuff, helped koyomi in the past probably in relation with his vampire-background Shinobu Oshino - Ex-Vampire, kinda sad/mad for some reason, just sitting there Tsukihi/Karen - Girls that do the preview for the next episode every episode, koyomi's sisters we will barely see otherwise in bakemonogatari Time: We start in medias res, in the middle of things. Two major events have already taken place and will be mentioned frequently - Spring Break and Golden Week. Golden Week revolved around Hanekawa and will be the final arc of bake Spring Break revolved around Koyomi becoming a vampire and turning back to human by the end of it, very traumatic, left him with residual powers like accelerated healing. This will be the plot for the kizu-movies. The show is very stylized in its language as well as its visuals. A lot of plays on words, culture and concepts. It was originally deemed unadaptable. Shaft did it anyway and they did it perfectly. Same studio as madoka, which is why you felt reminded of it.

Can't wait for the op reaction. But before that: The songs were written exclusively for the show and there is one for every arc, not season, meaning that there is a new op every 3 episodes or so. So basically, the lyrics are actually pretty closely tied to the current arc. The songs are also sung by the VA who plays the girl the current arc revolves around.

Oh fine, I'll upgrade my subscription. You deserve it and I love watching people react to this absurd show. Got two months of content to catch up on now.

Monogatari... Absolutely peak, honestly. I subscribed for Hololive and couldn't hold back from subbing for this too!
