Production quality is next level with Monogatari. Also, Araragi being selfish might have been the optimal play ngl

So if i remember correctly, and im not 100% sure, oshino stealing her heart is pretty much to even the odds a little. Since he is all about balance and fairness, he thought kiss-shot is just too much for the three and tried to balance it out.

Watching Kizu, Araragi x Hanekawa is not only easy to imagine but also hard to believe isn't the canon ship. They've got great chemistry, and Araragi is clearly attracted to Hanekawa and she appears to be head-over-heels for him. But the thing Araragi realizes as he's pinning her down, getting her to say all those lewd things, is that he cherishes her more as a friend than a love interest. Araragi will easily admit that Hanekawa is the most attractive girl he's met, but despite this (and how horny of a teen he is) that's just not who she is to him. In fact it never occurred to him that she was attracted to him, despite all that she was willing to go through for him. Because he'd never had a friend before, and so it just seems to him like that's what friends do. Bakemonogatari is full of raunchy scenes, but you might have noticed that Senjogakara is never a part of them after they start dating. Even their date under the stars ends with them sharing their first kiss, but we don't actually see them kissing. Araragi the storyteller conceals that from us, but has no problem describing himself assaulting Maiyoi, albeit repeatedly wishing he could pretend that wasn't him. One is a deeply personal and private exchange he doesn't wish to share, and the other an appalling but comedic(?) example of his twisted perspective of what it means to be friends with someone. Like Emiya Shirou and so many others, you can't be a seinen protag who always selflessly puts his life on the line for others without being pretty messed up in the head. Thanks for watching my TED Talk.
