One way we could justify the survival of Toma is that dying is sometimes considerate as lucky and his power Imagine Breaker doesn't allow him to be lucky.

By the way putting Level 6 Accelerator in top 10 in the verse takes into account that most of the current top ten in verse will not appear until what would be Index season's 4-8

Yeah some of JC staff's animation choices make it hard to tell what happens, but at least for the flour explosion, the light novel makes it clear that he managed to escaped the beginning of the explosion and was blasted away by the resulting force

"Why am I rooting for Accelerator?" Because he legit *should* win. Touma's Imagine Breaker is almost useless against Accelerator's might and it's a refreshing break from Touma generally being able to just nope anything he's up against. It's kinda satisfying to see someone who truly has every right to be proud of their power. No other esper comes even close to Accelerator's power level. Accelerator is a really bad match-up for Touma, and yet Touma is still a far better match against him than Railgun or really anyone else for that matter.
