Wow, no races in Episode 8? Whole lotta flashbacks though. It is so very funny how Kitasan seeks consolation from Nice Nature after losing to Dia-chan in the Arima Kinen. Nature is so wonderful, but even her patience has limits, and Kitasan is stretching them. The fact that Nature-sensei has nothing left to teach her is fitting though. At the beginning of the season Nature was older and wiser than her, but at this point they're both adults, so simply being the more mature one isn't enough for Kitasan at this point. She has much deeper questions about herself she needs to answer as she continues into her fourth year of racing. Episode 9 starts with a newspaper headline of Satono Diamond winning the Hanshin Daishoten, a 3k G2 race often used as a warm-up for the spring Tenno Sho. Cheval Grand was the only other umamusume in the race, getting 2nd. Meanwhile just as little focus is given to Kitasan winning the Osaka Hai. While in previous seasons this race was still only a G2, it has been upgraded to G1 status at this point. Kitasan wins her fourth G1, and it's brushed off as something hardly worth mentioning. The character assassination continues. Satono Crown also ran in this race, finishing in 6th. The 2017 spring Tenno Sho is like another call-back to S2. Like Teio, Kitasan won the Osaka Hai before it, and like McQueen Dia-chan won the Hanshin Daishoten. But first while they're both in Hanshin they go on a cute date sightseeing across Hokkaido. Unlike S2 however, it's Teio's protegee Kitasan that is the one to win the race for the second time in a row. You are forgiven for forgetting that she had won the prestigious race last year since that was the one that they showed only in the ending title card for episode 4 after her training arc. But finally, Kitasan gets a properly depicted victory. And it was a new record! She successfully beat the record set ten years ago! Just ignore that last season Rice Shower made a new record, and the chronology implies that was just three years ago. Dia-chan only places 3rd this race, which is still very impressive considering she's a year younger than Kitasan and Cheval Grand. Speaking of which, Cheva-chi was a bit of a late bloomer, but she has really improved. Oh, and since you asked why Cheval Grand, Vivlos, and Verxina are sisters but have very different hair, it's because they all have different fathers. The V-Sisters have the same mother, Halwa Sweet, but they were each sired by different fathers.
