This might be a bit lengthy so bare with me. So I think you were fairly spot on when it comes to the reasons why these 3 wanted to commit suicide. Zebra, the big guy, was gay and society made him feel bad for it, the locket hints at this, Fuyubashi was likely suffering from some form of disease as the pills hint at this. Kamome possibly felt alone and neglected by her family so felt like she needed to bond and perhaps felt unwanted, which is possibly hinted at by her desire to be close to them and far away from her family. Now for something I think you missed which will turn a lot of this on it's head, these 3 have been dead for most of the episode and all 3 died during this episode. Where? The very first attempt. It's not absolutely clear what killed them but my thought is the demolition that was happening on the building since immediately after all three are outside of the building with no indication as to how they got out there. Now how can you tell they're dead? Well besides the repeated failed attempts, every scene after the demolition shows a few things that indicate they're now ghosts. First is they have no shadows under their feet when they're out from under a shadow, the episode later very significantly hints at this when Fuyubashi looks at the ground outside of the store and we see Kamome's legs/feet and no shadow while a random passer-by has his. It's also hinted at less noticably with the guy who killed himself in front of a train. He walks away despite this with no shadow and only really visible to the trio. Second is the showing of crows in a lot of scenes following them, most notably towards the end but they're present throughout, crows being infamous for being attributed to death. Thirdly are discrepancies, how they got out of the building and why Fuyubashi is taking his last pill twice are the most notable. Another thing to consider is why is Shonen Bat afraid of them or incapable of "freeing them"? It's because they're already freed, by death, they're ghosts. It's why the picture taking at the end scared those women, they were photobombing the picture despite not being visible. Last couple things, it also brings into question what actually really happened to Kozuka last episode. The police said Kozuka committed suicide, we're shown at the end of last episode that Shonen Bat had killed him, however we now learn that Kozuka was FOX on this board, Kozuka had a desire to kill himself. Shonen Bat freed him in the way he wanted, just like everyone else. Also as for the condom bit at the end, just my interpretation but condoms essentially kill something before it's born, this episode talks about the taking of life so it could be relating to the futility/irony of a condom if someone is going to take their own life anyway. EDIT: Also you mentioned the truck with bitter on it coupled with chocolate (known to be sweet), I never noticed that before but that could possibly be symbolic of it being bittersweet. They're free and happy in death, good spot khan

I dont understand this episode - I just catched 2 things - zebra seeing guy who jumped under train??And fubuyachi at the end sees all of them dont have shadow... and girls taking photo seems shocked. Dont tell me they actually died on first attempt and when they started to enjoy "living" fubuyachi realised they were dead all the time? Were we watching ghosts all the time? Zebra saw train-dude ghost because he is already dead too? I dont get last pill scene tho(2 last pills), maybe he had some mental illnes, I hope? Extra thin condoms as a last thing in episode also dont hint anything for me. Can someone explain? My own thoughts are that they are dead all the time, and the moment they were starting to enjoy living fubuyachi met sad truth??

Yesssirrr 🔥 excited to see this one

Dunno if he plans to watch Lord of the Mysteries, but if he does someone needs to tell him its okay to pause the episodes to read subtitles or digest any info. They've got 44 chapters crammed into 2 episodes so the pacing is diabolical and it's way too overwhelming to try and process everything in real-time as an anime-only watcher. As more episodes come out the pacing will be resolved, still peak fiction regardless. Praise the Fool.

ahhhh true true, that makes a lot of sense. best of luck to him in that case hahahah

36:36 mins in, just noticed old man looks just like sakamoto. Haha, interesting.

This seems to be the case with most Chinese anime sadly. And the webtoons too. Honestly expected this as soon as it was announced. He should read it instead

slight addition, I think the condoms point at Kamome being an unwanted child, since it lists "family planning".

It's very possible that could also be the case, the only reason I don't personally lean towards it being specifically aimed at Kamome is that it's an end of episode shot as opposed to mid. The episode is about all 3 of the characters and it doesn't seem right to me that the focal point shifts to a reveal about Kamome that can already be implied beforehand. Since the whole episode is very black comedy/dark comedy it seems fitting that it's a tongue in cheek ironic message about the futility of them if society and the world is just going to push them to take them anyway. The family could be in reference to the fact that the 3 souls have essentially bonded like family by the end. "Might as well have wrapped a condom on and made them a family from the get go to avoid all the harsh realities they'd be born into" kind of message. That's the great thing about Satoshi Kon, lots to interpret.
