That shit is like a 12 episode anime series cut down to 2 episodes. That’s brutal man. If a studio is going to put the effort in on the visuals, how about slowing down the overall story. Think mysteries is definitely made for those who read the manga to it.

Khan man it’s supposed to be this confusinggggg don’t worry

Uzumaki Khan

Ok fam if it’s meant to be confusing or not that’s one thing. But 44 chapters for 2 episodes, can that be considered remotely right? lol.

Saeed iCrimy

Yeah I agree man I tried to give it a shot and stopped after 1 episode. I heard the manga itself is bad but the web novel is "one of the greats", but reading novels is just not for me lol

Bapo224

Wow that's crazy, never heard of such pacing

Uzumaki Khan

It looked stunning though, that’s for sure. Oh I never knew about the wed novel, thought it was just manga

Saeed iCrimy

There's one thing I find worth noting, A year ago i saw a few people mention that the real meat of the story doesn't starts until after chapter 60 or so, so maybe the adaptation is getting those chapters out of the way to start the actual story.. but I suppose by then a lot of people would've already dropped it..

Simmsdog

Director and Author both spoke about it, it's just due to the way they had to adapt as the novel has a few different POVs and they needed to do event-grouping to ensure that different plot points happen at the right point in time. Animation staff said it was a lot as well, episode 4 until the end of the season is said to be a much slower pace. Everyone's got their own thing though, series probably isn't for you considering you watch such a large variety of different animes and this one genuinely requires some homework if you want to be a part of it.

Uzumaki Khan

Chapter 60, so probably episode 3 then? lol. Who knows maybe il go back on it one day

What needs to be considered here is that it's not 44 chapters of a manga, it's 44 chapters of a Chinese web novel that has been released the last few years as proper books, so it's different. That being said I'm actually reading through the novel now and there are entire chapters or parts to chapters that aren't there that miss out on important context/character building as well as crucial world building that helps to make the confusing stuff less confusing. Novel has been amazing so far, anime feels more supplementary to get people to buy the novels or for those who've already read it. It does look great though

Series was never a manga, it was a text-based web novel and there's recently been a Manhua but its a single artist working 17hour days. Forget it for now and maybe come back in a few years if you wanna either watch the anime or read a hunk of the manhua. Lord of the Mysteries is like 1400 ish chapters and then there's a sequel series called Circle of Inevitability which is like 1100 chapters or so.

Saeed iCrimy

At this rate they might reach chapter 100 by episode 4 🤣 jokes aside nothing is guaranteed tho I can definitely push through and give it a shot by animation alone lol But I'll wait until more eps release and if people say it's worth checking out.

Tryol

Apparently they need to cover 213 chapters in 13 episodes or something... that's crazy. For One Piece it took close to 100 canon episodes to cover 213 chapters. (Although we have to consider that OP source material is manga, and LOTM source material is a novel.)

Saeed iCrimy

FYI the manhua was canceled or "put on indefinite hiatus" since 2020

Mamura

I don't know man. The actual Yu-Gi-Oh! anime also skipped the whole first arc of the manga story and went straight to the point (skipping actually some very inportant moments but that's not the subject now.) Perhaps they should have done that with Lord of Mysteries as well? Probably would have been better than adapting ~20 chapters into one single episode. That's just me though!

Simmsdog

Nah there's a new remake that's releasing, art is actually phenomenal but the artist keeps talking about drawing becoming a prison so unless they get funded with a whole team it won't last long.

Baker

It's most likely because the first 213 chapters or so cover Volume 1, which is the first arc of the story. They probably believe that an arc = a season, though from what I've read so far of the novel they've skipped some pretty important world and character building that will just make everything even more confusing. Like entire chapters and portions of chapters have been cut seemingly

Tryol

How big is that volume? 213 chapters in 1 volume? I assume we'll never get a physical release of that.

Simmsdog

The author talked about the reason for the skipping of certain things. They need to group related events together, so certain 'mundane/character building' interactions will occurs later/earlier than usual. If you've read clown arc then you'll know theres a few important fights but in the anime they'll be grouped in 3/4 episode parts even though its not the case in the novel. Cuttlefish approved it and agreed with the direction for the series so gotta trust in the man ig

Simmsdog

Physical release is now on sale actually. For the first volume only (first arc). Can preorder on amazon i believe

Brother E

I have no idea what this is about; I thought this was One Piece manga related and Khan was going to start it soon. Had my hopes up.

Baker

Hope so, my only issue with that is it doesn't flow particularly well and isn't a great experience for newcomers. Early days but I feel like some of the stuff I've read in the novel feels like it should've been in there in some aspect, even if it's just a passing line

Simmsdog

Yeah i 100% with that. It feels a lot more disjointed as well if you haven't completely read the novel. Not sure where specifically you're up to, but at least the animators have done extremely well with including every big piece of foreshadowing that was in the novel. The character interactions aren't my favourite in the anime because it feels like something is missing but it'd be hard to include the little charms like Dunn's bad memory or Klein's obsession with money in such a small season.

Saleem Ali

Yeah don't bother with it. That's unforgivable. If you do want to replace it, I suggest To Be Hero X (another Chinese anime but it's my anime of the year currently) or Dandadan (season 2 coming out this week).

williamson

It's pretty much just a matter of perspective since it is based on a web novel in which chapters are normally much smaller than regular novel chapter. For example, 1 chapter of lord of the mystery has around 2200 words. In comparison, the first 3 episodes of re zero covers the entire first volume of the light novel series. Volume 1 has a total of 5 chapters and in total theres around 76000 words in the first volume. The lord anime covers 44 chapters for the first 2 episodes. Multiply it by 2200 and you get around 96000 words. Meaning the first 2 episodes would've cover 96000 words which is a lot but ultimately, it's not that unusual to see that much content being adapted into 2-3 episodes of anime. Now a days most anime are based on "manga" but the reality is that most of the mangas, apart the one from shonen magazine, are based on web novel/light novels. Even solo leveling was a web novel at first.

Pepe

Too much squeze, i'll still watch It but i may have a hard time haha. Love

PieRat

I tried watching it yesterday, i had no idea what was going on.

Astaroth

Is this about Lord of the Mysteries ?🤣

MadSkillz

Now that Dandadan season 2 is upon us when are you starting season 1

Armellica

Berserk Manga or Anime will be a Dream addition in the weekly schedule

This is a heads up for anyone that stumble across this comment or post again, the LOTM anime subtitles on crunchyroll were previously inaccurate and largely believed to be Chat GPT'd (there is evidence of crunchyroll translators using chatgpt for subtitles), they also use the LOTM wiki for character information which are actually minor spoilers for the characters they relate to (will not mention which ones). This has now been rectified and the subtitles for at least episode 1 have been updated. Would recommend using a pirating website for episode releases to ensure accurate subtitle translations for anyone watching.
