im not sure if he misunderstood what nightfall was saying but she said that trying to make herself believe that it was a fake smile despite her knowing deep down that it wasn't a fake smile loid had there (15:23) which is why she suddenly left after seeing that and told loid that he's lost his edge and also why she was crying and felt that way, because she could tell when loid's smile was fake and when it wasn't. well that's what i got out of that interaction.
