Newborns are somewhat blind when they're born. That being said, they can find their mother's breast to suckle on by the smell of their milk excreted by the areola. This theory has been proven time and time again, by laying the newborn on top of the mother's chest right away after birth to perform a breast-crawl and feed himself. 😜

The Famous Mommy

Yes and this is also true of the amniotic fluid. It is said that putting baby on chest right after birth can help establish successful nursing and not to shower after for a few days until nursing has been established and milk comes in. The amniotic fluid smell helps baby know the mothers scent and knows where to search for the milk. This is correct. Great job on the education!
