In Australia private health funds have been framed as a way to “ease the burden” on the struggling public system. Only the public health system wouldn’t be struggling if it wasn’t for private health funds lobbying the government for decades. We even have tax incentives to force encourage people to join a health fund - but it has to be a specific level of cover to qualify otherwise you’ll be paying for the health fund and won’t get a tax rebate.
