Ready for adventure! Ah, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, the second Wii U game to receive a demake and hopefully it won't be the last!

Released for the Wii U in 2014 (a whole decade ago!) Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is an absolutely charming puzzle...plaaaattttformer...with the joke being Captain Toad can't jump! Rotate the world to see different parts and use the wii u touchpad for certain levels, the game was just an adorable time with high polish all wrapped up in a neat little dioramariffic package.

I thought the game being a puzzle game really did seem to fit the Game Boys MO, since a bulk of the Game Boy's library are puzzle games. In some ways I feel like the actual closest thing to Captain Toad on the Game Boy wouldn't be Monster Max or other isometric titles but I think Noobow is more in spirit of the game. (Which if you haven't tried, I'd say check it out!)

Whilst it wouldn't truly be feasible to incorporate the rotational based angle (hah) of the original, I still think either hard cutting to different views of the level would be possible, or it could be designed to be played from one angle (like Monster Max and such).

Either way hope I did the game justice, and when you download the rom I think you'll know Beatscribe did the music justice!

you managed to make the stage look just as toyetic as the original! It is always cool when you demake a Nintendo property; although the character designs inherently translate well to the small screen, you have the benefit of 3 decades of pixel art advancements & best practices, so your versions tend to look so much more polished & playable than some actual Nintendo-made GB games

Thank you! I admit I do feel it's always a bit of an easy choice to demake Nintendo properties for all those reasons you describe. I tend to have this sometimes conflicting idea of how to handle demakes a lot of the times. The first being am I demaking stuff like they would have been at the time, trying to emulate a period accurate release for it. The second is, am I demaking it in a world where the Game Boy never stopped being designed for, and like you said the decades of advancements and knowledge just continued to get funneled into the Game Boy. As you see, I typically always favour the latter haha. But I do think it's a real interesting topic. Mostly I just want to make the best demakes for everyone ;D.
