Ah Okage Shadow King, a game we all know, we all love, one we constantly chatted about in our youths as one would walk from one classroom to the next, describing the fantastical world, the unique art style and characters, the gothic and oddball designs of enemies, the music that is 90% bagpipes, and that doesn't look or sound like any other JRPG!

Yeah that wasn't me, and most likely wasn't you, but I know it was at least one person out there because that's how I discovered Okage Shadow King.

I specifically saw this due to maddie aka othat'sraspberry (give her a follow if you haven't already), and hey, PS2 cult game? JRPG? And alright, let's do the obvious, the fact it looks like this would be sold at Hot Topic between an Emily Strange notebook, an Invader Zim Gir hoodie and a Ruby Gloom sticker set (and regretfully yes I'll say it has a slight Tim Burtonny vibe), had me sold.

Like Opoona on the Wii, there's just something so....very different to the entire presentation and vibe of Okage King compared to other JRPGs. It's fantasy, but not your general high fantasy. (but it knows you need to fight rodents in a JRPG, it's got what the people crave.)

Now am I going to say Okage Shadow King is a hidden gem, that it's got something that everyone missed out on, and it's better than FF (insert your favourite number here, 19, 22, -3)? Well, maybe! I don't know everyone's tastes, but I will 100% recommend anyone try a game for themselves.

Absolutely stunning! I’d play the heck out of this Game Boy adaption (kinda hard to accept there’s only a single scene). Never heard of the original before; of course, I had to look it up right after the end credits, and that made me appreciate your amazing adaption into pixel art even more. Very well done!

P.S.: I discovered a surprise lil’ bug (credits to my ant senses): pressing either the up or down button right after the interactive scene has started results in the player sprite turning invisible. As soon as one steps left or right that bug’s gone, though.

Thank you! It's so neat there's just so many PS2 games out there, that many don't know about. Finding new games to play all the time :D.

Oooooh good find! Will try and remember that in the future for demakes, thanks for the quality assurance/testing!
