While being 2D, a visual novel and quite pixel arty already, the real challenge of demaking Phoenix Wright was truly skirting in 192 tiles per screen that required dialogue.

(Quick run down if not super into GB limitations - a screen is created out of 360 8x8 tiles, but only 256 can be unique if you're not using dialogue, and if you are, then you can only have 192)

Needless to say, bigger the character, the harder it gets. Gumshoe being the main one haha. But, thankfully it wasn't impossible to whittle down certain elements to get a pretty faithful looking demake.

Speaking of,  I had no idea the game was originally pitched as a GBC game so in a way, it's nice I kind of fulfilled an alternate reality type deal!

Overall learnt a good chunk of getting to grips with GB Studio and will have to think how to use it more in the future too.

There's also something very odd about being older than Gumshoe....hm. Shout out to anyone else who feels 30 is too young for Gumshoe, I feel mid 30s is a better age, but then when I'm mid 30's will I also go "ehhh early 40s is better" etc etc.

Ah well! Onward we go!

As someone who turned thirty three years old recently I feel ol' Gummo should be at leaaast ten years older than me. Dude must have gone through some serious detective shit to look like that on his 29th birthday haha. When I saw this pop up I thought about the planned GBC release too so feels like the perfect thing for this kind of demake. Aaaand glad to hear you're gettin' used to GBStudio. I'm still a few versions behind with stuff that I wanna complete before upgrading...but 3.0 looks noooooice haha.
