Meet the Adzuki Bar.

It's a popsicle made with sweet red azuki beans. It's been a long selling staple in the ice cream department with a pretty solid fanbase. It was first released in 1973 and boasts only a few ingredients: azuki beans, sugar, and starch syrup. It's not very sweet, quite hard, and sold 258 million bars in in 2010. That's a lot of fans. Now meet this.

You see the similarity, but something's different. What can it be?

Well, maybe it's because that azuki bar is a transformer!! Tadah!

So, it looks like Imuraya (popsicle company) and Bandai teamed up and made this fun toy...action figure? ADZUKI TRANSFORMER!

It goes from a ice cream bar (that is the exact same size as the real one) to Super Alloy Azuki Bar Robo!

It's perfectly play-with-able and can do different poses. The inside joke is that azuki bars are so hard and so is the Super Alloy Azuki Bar Robo's outer shell.

My favorite is of course the popsicle stick sword. That was a pure genius move right there. Cost: 13,750 yen.

In other news, losing my mind getting ready for a trip back to the States. So. Much. To. Do. AND I just realized I didn't put up a Bedtime Story for August. I thought I did it early on...but, hey, that's not like me. So I'll get two up this month. I also need to get researched, written, and recorded four episodes so we can schedule them while we're gone. Oh. Dear.  Oh! OH!! I just saw that I got fifty reviews for The Book of Japanese Folklore, thank you so much

╰(*´︶`)╯♡ !

I heard that fifty is the magic number for reviews on Amazon. Not sure what that means, but I think the algorithm gods kick in, and they start recommending your book on occasion.

I am printing out postcards this week and already have the envelopes addressed and ready to go. So there's something I'm not falling behind on. w00t! So much to say. More in a bit.

I hope everyone is well and 100% more chill than I am at the moment. This is me at the moment:

I’d totally try a frozen adzuki bar.

I'm a little ashamed of myself. 1. Never had one before. 2. Yesterday I was at the supermarket, saw them, yet opted for a very thin ice cream bar that was basically minimal vanilla ice cream inside but was covered in thick crispy chocolate. Next time!

That sounds good. We have thick ice cream covered in a thin shell of something chocolatey.

Japan does seem to have some very odd toys like that - it makes you wonder how they're profitable. New molds are eye-wateringly expensive things. Maybe it's reusing parts from another mecha toy? On a competely different note, I was cleaning up some programming-related bookmarks and found this delightful story - the "ghost characters" of computer Japanese. https://www.dampfkraft.com/ghost-characters.html I especially liked the idea of treating these unpronounceable characters as names of new youkai.

I think that about the countless kisestsu gentei foods and desserts, especially ones that look complicated to make (not just a different flavored chip). But, yeah, even more so with these toys. Gatcha Gatcha toys are insanely komakai and varied. Going to follow link now 🙌😊
