I guess the cat's out of the bag ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ -- ✨ Some Good News ✨
A while ago, my publisher (Adams Media) asked me if I'd be interested in creating a Yōkai Oracle Deck. I actually had been fiddling with the idea for many months, jotting down thoughts and notes, trying to figure out how difficult it would be. So when they suggested it, my answer was a very enthusiastic YES!
I've been working like a madwoman on it since then, and I just accidentally stumbled across the pre-order page on Amazon. I didn't know it was up!
Being bilingual (and I'm sure many of you can agree), I absolutely believe that there are certain things, feelings, emotions, thoughts, that are better expressed in different languages. A simple example would be like the word "tsundoku". A single word that encapsulates the idea of buying books and magazines that you intend to read, but you just let them pile up. In English we'd have to describe all that. But in Japanese, it's one word.So I went through and gathered up all the wise words, proverbs, idioms, phrases, & other distinctly Japanese adages that I've fallen in love w/ in my 35+-yrs of living in Japan & I paired them to a yōkai whose soul I thought matched that vibe. I'm really, really excited with how they've turned out and the wide range of messages and life advice that the deck incorporates. There are 60 cards to be illustrated by Michelle Wang. She did The Book of Japanese Folklore. I've seen some sketches of some of the new creatures and they are SO GOOD! She is already a fantastic artist, but I think she's even leveled up since last year.
So if you want to give it a look...preorder?* It's funny, though, the examples they put up are my original pitch examples. So while the kitsune is still "Chie wa chikara ni masaru" (Wisdom surpasses strength), the other two have changed to more suitable phrases since then. Otanoshimi~

Thank you everyone, too, for your kind and healing thoughts. I'm slowly getting better. Not 100% by far, but definitely better than I was even a week ago. I can hobble myself to the shrine one block away and ring the bell and come back. That's progress! 🙏Stay safe and well, XOXO,t
P.S. Patrons. I recorded several chapters from The Pillow Book and will put that Bedtime Story up later today or tomorrow. Richard's doing the editing now.
