Hey hey, Everyone๐Ÿ‘‹,

I have so much to say and things to write about, but I want to do a quick update for the moment because I didn't get to last Sunday.  First, look at that cake! I yelped very loudly when it was revealed ๐Ÿ˜ญ ๐Ÿ’•. Best birthday cake ever๐Ÿ˜Š. Thank you, E for the sushi, the cake, and the wonderful company. And thank you for sharing your exciting adventures. Here's a couple.

Health-wise: I'm walking better, still some swelling and pain, but managed a 10k step day and that is huge for me. Still can't kneel or do anything particularly harrowing like skip down the steps. Go back to see doctor in two weeks. See what he says. He took like fifteen vials of blood to test for genetic things I might have.

Richard had to skip a talk he was going to give to a bunch of teachers in Tokyo (because of my emergency). I feel terrible about that. But turns out there's another opportunity happening this weekend in Osaka. So I begged him to do it. I'll drive us there. It's a four-hour drive, but I'll take one day and go slowly, stop a lot to walk around at all the wonderful rest stops they have here. One day for the event. Then the next day do the old slow drive home. I figure I might be able to manage a stop or two to see something fun or temple or shrine-y. I mean, as long as I don't have to walk up a mountain...I just don't know where to stop ๐Ÿ˜. Any ideas? Will be going from Shizuoka through Nara to Osaka. I just can't decide. It feels like going to Disney World as a kid and being told I can only ride two rides. I'm a little reticent to drive through Kyoto. I did last time, but it was the end of the pandemic and not much traffic. I saw some video of what the streets look like now....eeegads. So now I'm looking for "out of the way/off the beaten track" and "accessible by car."

I'll let you know what I come up with! And open to ideas! ูฉ( 'ฯ‰' )ูˆ

โœ‰๏ธ Postcards! I'm sending three month's worth out next week (Dec/Jan/Feb) because I got so behind on things. Erg. Sorry about that.

I'll end with a couple photos of things that brought me joy the past week or so.

This is Fuji-san taken early morning on my birthday. My friend took it and sent it to me. She lives closer to the beach than I do and does daily early morning walks. It was a gorgeous day.

Stopped by the 7-11 for something and had to get this. It's supposed to be a dorayaki, but instead of being much thinner and filled with red bean paste, two kinds of chocolate cream. It was nummy!

Here's a real dorayaki.

Nattokinase is an enzyme in natto that is supposed help dissolve blood clots. I've been trying to eat a pack every day or every couple days, been forgetting recently. Woops.

Anyway, came up with this brilliant combination, natto + blue cheese. Yup.

Finally, I don't want this to get too long, so I'll leave you with a little bit of spring. Blue sky, plum blossoms and a bee!

Love you all, thank you~ XO,

terrie

Happy Birthday! Glad to hear you are doing better, and wishing you a lovely trip to Osaka!

Aaah, so happy to hear you're doing better! And happy birthday! I still haven't managed to get hold of natto, and I don't eat cheese but this combo does actually sound really nice ๐Ÿ˜…

Happy birthday, and Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re feeling/doing better. Butโ€ฆ natto + blue cheese! Two of my least favourite things. Iโ€™m always fascinated by how/why people (in general) started eating specific foods.

Happy Birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ and the cake looks amazing! Wishing you good health and happy adventures! ๐Ÿš—

happy birthday! Don't drive in Kyoto! I was there for a day on my last trip and a friend drove me around because we were trying to cram several widely spaced out things into not enough time. the drivers are out of their minds! ๐Ÿ˜… Seriously, I have lived in places in the US that are famous for bad drivers, and I was VERY unnerved. It's weird too because it's almost all big straight streets, not all twisty and complicated like Tokyo, so what is their problem? But yeah, unless you can park somewhere and take a train into town, just go somewhere else!

When I had my blood clot event my hematologist said: โ€œsince weโ€™ll never know what caused them Iโ€™m putting you on a low maintenance dose of Eliquis for the rest of your life. We could do some expensive genetic tests to see if you have a propensity for clots, but if you do the result is that Iโ€™d put you on a low maintenance dose of Eliquis for the rest of your life. So letโ€™s skip the tests.โ€

Luckily, the whole hospital stay, ambulance everything, all the tests, everything came to a grand total of a little over 400 dollars. BUT I did tell him about my friend (you!) and the low dosage for life and he seem intrigued. I'm for it! 100%! I walk daily, stretch a lot and try to stay hydrated. I'll remind him about it when I see him. He seemed to think I want to be off the medicine as soon as possible. I'm like noooo!!

Yeah, when I drove that one time I was stressed out, too. Lotsa What the hell are they doing?! Luckily the Osaka talk is this side, so no going through the city...god, I can't IMAGINE Osaka drivers!! ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Lol, I hated natto for years. One change was while I was pregnant. Slightly craved it. That was my first time really eating it. Then later when Julyan was in high school, he started lifting weights and eating it and for some reason the smell reminded me of roasting coffee. Blue cheese was after coming here. Not sure why exactly.

How lucky you are at only $400. My hematologist bill, for one visit, was $300 was not covered my insurance since I hadn't met the $4000 deductible!

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday and relieved to hear that you're on the mend and back to more adventures! ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸฆŠ

Happy birthday! Would you ever consider stopping at the Atami Hihokan Sex Museum in Atami, Shizuoka? XD I'm guessing there's probably some weird stuff in there that comes from myth and legend! (My aunt once bought a tiny -- pebble-sized -- golden penis there.)

Jae Steinbacher

Oops, the map steered me wrong! I see itโ€™s in the opposite direction ๐Ÿ˜…

Belated happy birthday! So glad you're doing better!

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Oh, JAE!!! I went there about thirty years ago, TOTALLY on accident. My ex and I wandered in and it was an absolutely joy. We thought it was a regular museum and we were *mind blown*. Also I think I came up with some uses for some very strange sex toys they had back then. Like there was no information how to use them, but I figured it out all by myself! I really should go there again. But I bet it's crowded now.

Jae Steinbacher

That sounds like an amazing accident XD. I wanted to go when I visited Japan, but alas it wasn't on my route.
