Hey hey~ 👋

I have a video compilation of the crow couple and their new offspring uploading as I write this. It's been uploading for about five hours and at the 50% mark. It's not a big video, only about 12-minutes long.

Does anyone remember when the internet was s.l.o.w.? When you could tell people were home from work because it all but stopped working? That's been us for the past week or so.

So, a thing happened and our internet provider cut us off. Long story short, R's credit card didn't pay for December. Jan, Feb, March, April, and May were all paid-A-Okay, but since he was paperless, I guess any warning message they sent wasn't seen? I don't know. Doesn't make sense to me. I would think that they'd just double charge the next month. Or what they usually do here is send a letter or postcard with the amount to pay at the local conbini. I would think they'd want money.

But, alas, no.

Instead, we were surprised to get a big envelope with the message RETURN YOUR ROUTER. Also, you can't even RE-sign up with us for five years. Excuse me, what?

*sigh*

Signing up for a new internet provider is a little known circle of Dante's Hell. It shares with working with your cell phone company. It also takes ALL DAY LONG. While we wait for them to pull more hikari fiber and give us that ol' internet juice, we have some wifi monstrosity that works, but is slow. Hence, my cool crow video that I finished at 6am this morning is still uploading to Youtube here *checks clock* at noon.

Which leads me to this: Twyla Tharp is so quotable.

"Anticipation is a skill that needs constant tending. Practice this: each day expect one miracle-one instance of elegance or beauty from the world-it's your right." ~ Keep it Moving.

So let my tell you a wowza story the other day while we wait for the upload to finish. This made me do a little scream when it clicked.

Back in mid April, I was gifted some seeds by my friendly crows, Buddy and Sweet Pea. They gave little gifts last year, but really haven't recently. So I was pretty stoked.

Here they are.

I kept them in a bowl for a couple weeks, called them magical, asked people what they thought they were, then finally came to the brilliant idea, why not plant them?

So I did.

I joked (too often, I'm sure), "Maybe they'll grow into a huge beanstalk all the way to the clouds!" Har har har.

*slaps knee*

Well, I put the pot out in the sun, so they'd have a good chance at growing. Then on day three or four or something I caught a freakin' pigeon beak deep in the dirt, eating a couple. Chased pigeon away, brought the pot inside and put in the window.

And...

They sprouted! Or two sprouted. Stupid pigeon.

Now, I pretty much end up killing all my plants. Something is wrong with me. They get to a good place and I think I just get lazy and they get sad and die. Or I forget to water them and they die. Or I water them too much and they die.

I was (and am) very careful with these little sprouts though. I am dying to know what they are. Har har har.

To my surprise, they continued to grow. Definitely some kind of vine. I asked again and someone said probably soybean. Which makes sense. They looked like soybeans.

I added a pole and they kept growing. Not quite to the clouds, but after a month or so this happened. Can you see it?

A tiny bloom! Now's my chance.

Those who are plant savvy can see where this is going. I, erm, couldn't.

So I do an image search to finally find out what this mysterious plant is. It's been almost too months. The suspense is killing me.

I read the response.

Richard is standing nearby and I say, "Hey! It's a sweet pea."

Then I pause. Do that little scream thing.

I've always called the female crow Sweet Pea. So the fact that Sweet Pea brought me sweet peas is all kinds of mind blowing to me. Like no flipping way?!

And it's not like there are any sweet peas nearby. I've never seen any at least. Or any plant that looks like this one since I obviously don't know what a sweet pea is. I mean, there must be some in someone's yard, because they got them from somewhere. But I don't know...

I'm leaning toward it might just be some kind of ✨miracle✨.

Everyone, be safe and well, XOXO,

terrie

I love this story! And the plant is beautiful, I'm glad it's growing so well. I am like you with plants, I just cannot look after them properly for some reason so they never thrive - I have three very sad plants on my patio currently, I keep watering them because they're not quite dead, but they don't look at all healthy and I have no idea what they need.

I do think it's *something*. When I read about dirt and nutrients, it feels like science to me and I just shut down. So for me all plants get whatever dirt I happen to have on handy. I sort of wish I had more time and could take a course or something. Funny story. I have some monstera (pretty hardy, although I manage to kill them every so often) plants. We were going back to the states for an entire month in June back at the beginning of covid. So I filled the bathtub a few inches and just put them in there. My theory being they could suck up some water if they wanted? I pretty much expected they'd be husks when I got back. WELL! A month later, I open the shower door and it's the Amazon in there! Green all over the floor, walls, ceiling, and the plants are thriving! Not droopy like usual. Straight up, happy! I think I inadvertently made a green house. It was toasty. I guess they loved that. Can't do it again because I need to use it as an actual shower, our only one. Oh another plant I manage to wreck over and over is basil. EVERYONE I know grows basil by the boatloads. Not me. And I love it. I *try*.

Definitely a gift from Sweet Pea.

That is just too gorgeous! Bless Sweet Pea!

whenever I read any advice on how to look after plants, it always seems to assume some background knowledge I don't have - I never find anything that's helpful for someone who has absolutely no idea.
