Hello-hello, my wonderful friends 💕

I've got a life update coming soon and photos of Obaachan and Ojiichan's house and what I walked into the first day VS what I've got cleaned up and fairly livable.

Two more stories and two weeks to meet the New Book's halfway deadline. So, today I'm taking a break and doing an all-day-cleaning marathon at the Yaizu House (Yay! I'll be moving back to Yaizu!).

You know, I think I might be the only person in Japan without a heated toilet seat. I know, I know, Boo hoo 😢. I can handle the "no central heating" pretty much, used to that and hunkering down in front of a kerosene heater, wrapped in a blanket. But non-heated toilet seats in freezing house will certainly wake you UP!

Ha.

In other news, I am learning the ropes of doing the audio for the show. It's a lot. Taking notes. I need to practice, so I am hoping to get more chapters of The Pillow Book up soon because I owe you and I also was given some new books on local folklore that I can't wait to dig into, translate, and record for you all.

I hope you're taking deep breaths, feeling your feet on the ground, safe and sound, sending all my love, and Sei wants you to know that "oxen should have very small foreheads and white hair."

Oh, how I love her.

I love this book and it's wonderful to hear it

Uncanny Japan -- Thersa Matsuura

Oh, it's...a LOT, but as the fella who turned the gas on and taught me (after an hour making calls to figure it out) how to use Obaachan's old gas stove said after looking around at the piles and piles of "stuff": "It's going to be so rewarding getting this cleaned up." Took all day but cleared off the dining room table (basically just piled everything into another room and filled three big bags. Also got the fridge delivered! Woof!

Wonderful! I think that Sei was like the Buzzfeed of her day - Six reasons to love spring. You won't believe number five!
