Hey hey πŸ‘‹, everyone~ How are you hanging in there?

Okay. I got a creepy story and a "made me cry" and smile story.

Creepy first. So keep in mind, it's very dark around here in my new abode, no streetlights and no one really keeps their outdoor houselights on. I don't mind because that means more beautiful night skies. Stars!! ⭐️

Add to that "dark thing" that I always have in my mind that back about ten years ago and before, there were a lot of break ins around here. Even this house got broken into. Obaachan was super paranoid after that. Which I totally understand. The police officer who came the other day confirmed that break in (I wasn't just imagining it) and told me to keep me door locked. And lock your gate! Note: lock is broke on gate, but doesn't matter because you can just walk onto the property through the big old opening for the gravel parking area.

One more thing to set the scene, the head of my bed is up against a window that faces the street. I keep the rain shutter to that window closed, but there is a side window that I don't bother to pull the rain shutters on because I like waking up to sunlight, not complete darkness.

Okay, that's what we're working with. I've been sleeping wonderfully, actually. But the other night I woke up at midnight to someone whistling. My across the street neighbor whistles (why does everyone whistle around here?). But this wasn't him. Number one, totally different kind of whistling. Neighbor is melodic and beautiful. This was rough, out of tune, and the same pattern over and over. Also my neighbor is in his nineties at least and wakes at four am, so he's long in bed and asleep at midnight.

The whistling isn't so much loud, but disturbing. I can hear it down the street and walking towards this house, along the street. I can here slow shuffling footsteps. Old man. Part of me is like I want to record this, but I was frozen. I really couldn't move. Slowly this whistler gets closer and closer until he's just right on the other side of the window. There's a fence, but a couple more feet and it's the big opening to the parking place and a half dozen steps to ... my side window.

The whistler stops there, grumbles something. But then keeps on going. Keeps on whistling that same tune. Keeps on dragging his feet. I swear all night long I heard that whistle and kept waking up. But didn't hear it after waking. Thoroughly freaked me out.

Now my crow story. I stopped by the old house to get some stuff I'd left and usually when I stop by one or two of the crows greet me. It's been forever since I've seen Buddy (my first crow friend and the one who is so brave he'll get really close to me). I looked up on the roof. No crows. They're probably out farting around, as they do.

Then I felt I was being watched.

Ha! Look as this derpy boy comes walking on over.

Walk. Walk. Walk.

Checks for cars.

Derp. Derp. Derp.

Keep on derping, Buddy!

He flies up to the fence right next to me and we talk for awhile. I'm in near tears it's been so long since I've seen him. He seems a little stunned too to see me.

He hurt his leg like over six months ago. I think a run in with a hawk, protecting his son, Niblet. He limped for so long. It was painful to watch. He still has a little limp. But better.

So we just hung out for awhile until someone walked by and he had to make a hasty sideways exit.

So handsome! XO, stay safe and well, everyone!
