Hey hey, Everyone ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪I just ran into Kawashima-san (first time since our karaoke night, just been too hot to go out in daylight hours) and we were happy to see each other. It's so hot you have to take walks early. But even 5:30 am is still melting weather. At least today there was a breeze. So when I heard his whistling I went running through the narrow road between the rice fields to see him and Chibi the old pup. We chatted and he invited me to karaoke tonight. Ha! I said, not tonight, but maybe next week?! Oh, before I forget, here's the latest episode of Uncanny Japan. I'm doing obon for real this year and getting my learn on. Right after I recorded this I found several big boxes of obon goods. So I'll do a blog post about all the good stuff I found in there.

Stay safe and well, I have another post about an old temple I visited a few days ago, too. Sooon!

Here's a video with some images, too.

This was exciting to hear, thanks Terrie. I plan to experience Obon in Kyoto at some point. I enjoyed the ambient sounds, and in the background is there a music excerpt from the older movie Kwaidan? (Or maybe something that it just used... It is really nicely creepy). Keep up the fascinating work! My vote (for scratching noise) is a mouse, l've experienced that. No clue about zabutons though!

I think Obon in Kyoto will be deliciously awesome. The music was from my son. He's made me little bits to use for things. He's so talented (might be biased here)! I'm *gulp* actually leaning toward cockroach. They are ENORMOUS here and I *DID* just murder one a couple days prior to that, same general location. I put out some homemade bait that is supposed to make them loopy and leave and dropped a couple in the nageshi gap. As I lie there deciding on whether I should record it or if it was too quiet to get properly on my phone, I realized it sounded almost like tinfoil crinkling. I had put the bait in little in little tinfoil cups...so maybe, ate, went loopy, and hopefully sayonara'd out of here.

Aargh re: cockroaches, not that big here where I am. Julyan's music is really apt and atmospheric

That's thunder in the background? Very moody and appropriate. I'm glad that Obon is still alive and kicking (😉) as a festival, and not fading away as so many others seem to have done.

You are so right here. In the old house I watched the yearly obon dance and matsuri that would have happened right out our front door die. It was during corona, but they never picked it up again. It was so sad to see the older neighbors complain that the young parents didn't want to learn what they were passing down. They were all "too busy." I'm in my old neighborhood more or less now, though, and at night I've heard the kids out practicing flutes and drums for the fall matsuri. That makes me happy. ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪
