The newest podcast (rokuyo, six days) is coming out soon (tonight or tomorrow), and the Bedtime Story after that. But in the meantime, I did this thing.

It's been horribly windy here, and I haven't been able to go for a walk outside to catch the sounds of my neighborhood without blowing my mics out. So instead I killed two birds with one stone.

The other day I had to go into Shizuoka to get my Resident's Card reissued (lost it, can't go back to the U.S. for the Bram Stoker Awards without it, long story, sigh). I decided to take my mics and my goofy hat and record the train ride. I could get some background for the newest podcast while I spend half a day taking care of business...also, I could give it to you guys (three birds one stone?)

Anyway, so that's what this recording is: a twenty minute train ride (the slow train, we call the donko) into the city. No talking from me, just pure train riding goodness. It's recorded with the binaural mics, so it should really feel like your sitting there, listening to the conductor, the other passengers, then exiting the train, fighting the crowd downstairs to the ticket gate and walking to the Consulate where I had to turn it off and take off my strange headgear just in case they thought I was some whacko.

If you listen closely, you'll hear and old man quiz his granddaughter on all these silly riddles. They were sitting across from me and quite fascinating. The riddles were way above the little girl's head, so the mom was trying to help out. It's all in Japanese of course...but you can get the gist of it, maybe?

If you're interested, give it a listen. I'm searching for a good Bedtime Story this weekend. Expect that and other snail mail goodies in the coming week(s).

XOXO and many thanks to all of you and welcome new Patrons!

Eilís, thank you so much for listening. I can definitely do more. This was very impromptu and I did nothing to the sound. My sound guy says he can do something to make it better. I'll pass it by him first next time.

Linda, thank you! I have certain bedtime tracks as well. I never considered the train. Yesh. We have a real steam locomotive very near us. It runs through the mountains and is a joy to ride (except for the black lung you get if you leave the windows open). I think I'm going to try and record that this spring!
