April first's podcast is dropping on the world very soon. Richard and I are super nervous and excited because it's a bit of a cheesy, light-hearted departure from the usual episodes. We had so much fun making it and have been hashing out new ideas for similar shows. I still want to do a serialized story based on one of mine.

So now everyone who listens (if they don't already) should have an idea what the youkai amabie is.

And I saw something online and thought, why not make your own, edible, potentially bloody amabie for good luck?

First, take some little sausages or weiners or what-have-you and cut the legs. Remember an amabie or amabiko has three legs! Although it's easier for them to stand with four.

Then get some spaghetti and break it into pieces and stick it into the head of the amabie. As much and as long as you'd like.

Also, use your knife to carve a little face. I saw some people make little beaks out of carrots. I didn't have a carrot but tried with an itty bitty piece of green pepper. It was okay, but a little bit lame. So the photos here are of my non-beak version.

Then you pop those puppies into a pot of boiling water and boil, boil, boil.

Until something like this happens. The joy!

You can eat as is, or cover in some kind of pasta sauce or even ketchup.

You know, to make them delicious and give a nice bloody vibe to the little guys.

If anyone dares to make these little darlings, do share a photo. Mine just aren't cute at all.

XO,

These are terrifying. If I woke up and these were next to me I'd panic worse than the guy with the horse's head in the Godfather. Although, weiners are already pretty weird to begin with.

oh, you have to put this on Twitter! it's too good to hide it away here

Linda, thank you! My plan is to put the podcast up today (4.1 in Japan already! Hee hee!) and hopefully that will get a little more messaging about what an amabie is. Then put some photos of the wonky recipe up on Twitter, FB, Instagram. Hopefully, they'll make some people chuckle.
