Wow. This month has blown by. I'm just putting up May's Bedtime Story, "The Straw Feudal Lord". I mention it in the beginning, but this is a much, much more obscure version of "The Straw Millionaire". Both are fun, but I'm a little partial to this version.

Also, it looks like we might very well be making a trip back to get our shots. I'm more than a little overwhelmed with all I have to do to get ready. Other that usual stuff like stopping mail, find a rat and axolotl-sitter for my little buddies, and the like, there is a whole bunch of paperwork and PCR tests that need to be taken care of. Since the podcast and Patreon goodies relaxes me, I'm going to go and concentrate on that ... and this super cool kaiju story I'm writing for an anthology.

Envelopes and postcards heading out this week!

XO,

terrie

I enjoyed the story a lot. I think your thoughts on it compared to other versions are spot on. I did find myself wondering, now why won't he accept money? Maybe that was referenced earlier and I missed it. The other thing is, his mother says, I have nothing special for you, and then proceeds to point to something special for him. But perhaps there is a lesson both he and his mother knew regarding the real value of things. I mean if he accepted money he perhaps could only consume but could no longer trade. A pre-capitalistic notion if ever there was one.

I'm so glad you noticed that (about not accepting money). As I was reading and translating I kept thinking the same thing. I went back and re-read the mom's parting words about a dozen times, looking for something she might have said to give him that idea. But there wasn't anything. I ~almost~ added something so that it made a little more sense there. But decided to stick to the original. And I thought that was funny, too, nothing special, but...look in the attic. I love your take on it. ^^d
