Fighting inside the warehouse would get dangerous for all those passed out inside, and confident that the angry man would follow him, Will jumped back. He was a little startled when he noticed he covered about five meters with a light jump. His body felt light and strong, but it was hard to gauge how much. He didn’t get to practice much with that previous powered up state to begin with, so moving was a little awkward.

Once more, the man stood up, but this time he didn’t rush at Will. Instead, his aura flared up even further and even his muscles seemed to grow a full size. His skin was turning red from heat and he could see the veins in his arms and his forehead. His eyes were unfocused, darting from side to side before settling on Will again. Then, he darted towards him.

He ran like a desperate man, arms flailing as his steps cracked the ground. And yet… he wasn’t stepping on any one of the unconscious mercenaries. Was that deliberate?

The man reached him, and a wide swing was coming his way again. Will ducked and sent a fast, snappy punch to the man’s stomach, yet it was like hitting a rock. Will dodged another swing and launched a kick to the waist, but again, the man didn’t budge. The man tried to grab him, so Will jumped back again and circled around him, wanting to keep the man in the suit in his field of view, too, but maybe it wasn’t necessary.

Between Aoi and Johana, the man in the suit didn’t last much longer. He barely dodged a downward slash from Aoi’s sword that sliced through his suit and shirt both, but evading that sent him right into Johana’s range, extended by her halberd which found the man’s back with a clean impact.

How that guy wasn’t spit in two, Will could only guess. He was sent flying, rolling on the floor on landing. He coughed blood, meaning he hadn’t escaped unscathed from that hit. He grimaced, reached into his pocket and brought out a small crystal stone. He crushed it in his hand and a dark portal seemed to suck him in. Unlike the one Helga had used before, this one wasn’t like a door. The portal had formed around him before taking him in and being sucked into itself as well.

Did he retreat, then? Shit. More important things to focus on. Like the nagging girl in his head.

‘Will? What do you think you’re doing? Why are you holding back?’

She talked as if she was asking a question to a dumb toddler.

“I don’t want to hurt him.”

‘He’s going to hurt us if you don’t hurt him first, sweetie.’

“I’m already starting to regret this…”

The angry man stomped the floor hard, not just cracking the concrete this time, but breaking it into pieces. He then grabbed a handful of those pieces and threw them all together at Will with so much force they might as well have been bullets.

Will reacted quickly, extending his hand and creating an explosion of aether right in front of him just as the debris was about to hit him, turning them all into dust.

“Hey, Will!” Johana called out, dismissing her weapon and tiredly sitting down on the floor. “Just so you know, I hit him with all I had and, well, he’s still alive. I doubt you have to worry about killing him.”

“You’re just going to sit there?” Aoi asked her, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course. He can handle this now. You’ve gotta give those two space to stretch their legs, you know? I mean, look at them.” Johana smirked. “Give them a few months more of training and they’ll leave me in the dust, frustrating as that is.”

Will clicked his tongue, clenched his fists and was the one to make the next move. He closed the distance in two steps and went full on the offensive. After all, he’d seen enough already.

This man was just a normal person.

How did he become possessed? How much influence did the spirit inside him have over him? Why was he with this group of mercenaries? Why did he believe Will had killed his family? Will wanted to ask him all sorts of questions, but for that he needed to calm him down.

He couldn’t defend. Will hit him hard, punching him in the stomach with so much force his fist finally pierced the thick layer of strengthening. The man coughed, his breathing stopped and he bent over, leaving his chin exposed to a knee strike that threw his head back. Will then smoothly sneaked behind him and sent a jumping kick to the side of the head.

Still, the man was fully conscious and raging. Attacks that could’ve torn the flesh of any normal person were being shrugged off. Yet when he turned to strike at will, he wasn’t there. A kick with the tip of his foot to the stomach transitioned into a jumping kick the the back of his neck, sending the man face first into the concrete.

Will clicked his tongue again.

His body was moving mostly like he wanted to. He was able to do things normally impossible to him and strike with the strength to crush rocks. But who was he fighting? A normal person.

This guy had raw strength that surpassed Will and Ishtar’s, strength that surpassed Johana’s, but he was no fighter. He was desperately throwing punches, hoping something would hit. With that insane speed, there was little Will could’ve done without Ishtar, but now?

Will looked down at the man on the ground and solemnly asked,“Hey… What was your wife’s name?”

‘Um… Will? Are you sure that’s…?’

The man’s red aura flared up again like a raging bonfire, roaring and screaming as he launched himself at Will from the ground.

Will jumped over him to dodge and turned back to look him in the eyes. “What was your wife’s name?” he repeated.

“M-Mary…!” the man said through gritted teeth. “Her name… Was… MARYYYYYYYY!!!”

He launched himself at Will again, and though Will kept his face solemn, he was glad to hear an answer.

The man was still there.

I'm really enjoying this story line. The character development between the two main characters has been written beautifully. I hope you continue with this and look forward to your next release.
