Chapter 804: Intermission - Modeling school.

Unlike Oliver and the other girls, Mila’s day wasn’t quite as busy. Modeling school wasn’t exactly a full-time commitment like university was. She had classes, sure, both in the morning and in the afternoon but had some large windows in between.

It made her consider getting a part-time job, like Oliver. After all… she still couldn’t entirely shake off the feeling of inadequacy. Compared to the others, who were studying to be engineers, doctors and lawyers, Mila was… doing very little to be just a model. She’d talked about it with Oliver some time ago, admitted she felt stupid and incapable, but he reassured her that she had skills none of them did, and that those skills were worth honing.

His support meant more to her than he knew, even with his mind reading. And so, Mila wanted to give this her all. If she was going to be a model, she was going to be the best of them all. She’d take her classes seriously, study what she had to, practice what was needed.

That was the motivation with which she started modeling school, but… Something unexpected had been getting in her way so far.

“When we talk about body language, we’re not talking about some sort of hard science,” the teacher said. She was a forty-something woman with very short blonde hair. Small-chested and slim, but fit and good-looking. Rosemary Moore was her name. Mila had looked her up and found plenty of photos of her modeling for clothing stores, had done a few TV commercials and had some minor roles in four movies.

She was standing in the middle of the circle Mila and 19 other modeling students had formed while standing. She walked to and fro, meeting the eyes of everyone she looked at as she continued.

“We’re not talking about reading body language to know when a person is lying, or when they’re nervous or excited. What we’re going to learn is actually closer to acting. You all need to learn to carry yourselves not just with confidence, but in whatever manner the job requires. Learn to portray exhaustion if a commercial demands it, learn to show excitement in a photo with more than just your face. Of course, your facial expressions are important, but your body language is the subtle key to sell emotions and you’d be surprised how many people forget about it. It goes beyond just photos and recordings, too. It affects how employers and the public will see you.”

This all made perfect sense to Mila, and the first person that came to mind when it came to body language was Diana. She always walked with her back straight and confident steps, and it made her give off this aura of self-assuredness and poise that, by her own admission, she didn’t possess.

Mila had her full attention in the lesson and was ready to learn more. Still, she was startled a bit when Mrs. Moore called her name.

“Milana, come here. Let’s see how you’d deal with this situation.”

Mila’s chest tightened, but she nodded and stepped up without hesitation, even when hearing the whispers of her classmates.

“Her again?”

“Why is it always her?”

“Favoritism much?”

Putting aside the venom in their tone, they did have a point. So far, Mila had been called to the front at least six times in the last three days, and this one made seven.

“Milana, you’re in an interview for the public. The video will be uploaded to social media sites. Interact with me with that in mind,” the teacher said.

Mila let out a short sigh, mentally readying herself. “Yes.”

“One, two, three, go. Milana, it’s pleasure to finally meet you!” The teacher’s attitude flipped like a switch. She went from instructor to cheery interviewer in the blink of an eye.

Mila decided to match her energy. She smiled, loosened her shoulders and lightly tilted her head. “Thank you very much. It’s a huge honor to be here. I can hardly believe I’m being interviewed! Hahaha.”

“Please, your career has been on the rise, lately. Some say it’s going a little too fast. What do you think about that?”

Keeping her smile, yet adding a little nervous laughter, she answered. “I admit, it’s somewhat scary.” She moved her shoulders a bit, as if shaking off some discomfort. “I’ve been trying my best, and I’m happy to see people like my work, but the pressure is immense.” Keep it concise, don’t overexplain yourself.

“I can imagine. It seems you’ve been very busy lately. What do you do in your free time?”

Have sex like a maniac, but it was a good thing she didn’t answer that. Mila giggled, adding her shoulders to it while covering her lips in a finger. “Oh, I’m actually super lazy, so if I can stay home and do nothing, I probably will. Though lately I’ve been forcing myself to wake up earlier and stick to a proper routine.”

“Oh, why’s that?”

“Oh, you know, it’s a healthier habit,” Mila said with a casual shrug. Her smile then turned to a bigger grin. “Also, it better fits my schedule with my roommates.”

Mrs. Moore smirked. “Cut. Excellent, Milana. Did you notice, everyone? The subtle movements of her shoulders, the tilt of the head, the use of her hands… It makes her look more approachable and more interesting to look at. These days we’re fighting against being background noise, so every little bit counts. You have a very solid understanding of body language, Milana. Good job.”

Mila smiled, more genuinely this time. “Thank you.”

She returned to her spot, and while some of her classmates clapped and gave her thumbs up, not few of them kept quiet and tried very badly to hide their glares.

The same had happened with the introductions to public speaking and voice projection last week. Mila had been called forward, put in the spot to attempt something, and done it to the level where the teachers praised her for it.

It was… a little discouraging, if she was being honest. She’d come here to learn, to hone these skills that she supposedly had, but they were saying she was already good enough? She told herself that wasn’t the case. A solid foundation and understanding didn’t mean that there wasn’t more to learn, right? It was only the beginning of the course.

…

It sure was breeding jealousy, though.

Chapter 805: Intermission - Fern’s new university life.

It was as close to a full reset as she could’ve had, really.

Having frozen a full semester, nearly all of Fernanda’s old classmates had gone on to their sophomore year while she had to catch up on her late freshman courses. Not that it was any loss, really. She wasn’t really friends with any of her old classmates. If anything, this was a chance to start fresh again.

Her therapist, Sarah’s dad, had told her to take things one at a time, and that’s what she had been doing. Since she had moved back in with her parents, she had the luxury to do so, and had started by cleaning her bedroom and keeping it tidy. It was… surprising how much it had improved her general mood. Even just laying on a made bed felt… good, right.

Now classes had started again, so after building some good habits at home, it was time to focus on her studies, right?

…

Problem was that focusing was a tall order when she couldn’t get the previous nights out of her head.

Even sitting there at her desk while the professor talked, everything he said went in one of her ears and out of the other, passing like ghosts through the very vivid images of the orgy at Oliver’s house.

Her heart was beating fast and she could feel herself growing ever so slightly moist between the legs. Not a good moment for it in the slightest, but she couldn’t help it.

She had sex in front of other women, with their boyfriend, then watched them do the same. She had watched the girls pleasuring each other and it had turned Fernanda on. They had shared the hut tub, the beds, the couches… She had fallen asleep with Mila on top of her, and the two shared a smile when they woke up.

Fernanda wanted it again. Not just sex with Oliver, but to spend time with everyone. Sexy time, fun time, relaxing time… In her 20 years, she had never felt more welcome outside her own home.

Class ended with Fernanda barely taking any notes, but she took solace in the fact that it was a history-related class, so she could just read up on her own later. There was, however, one major issue.

They were given an assignment due in two weeks. A group assignment.

Oh hell.

Groups were already forming. Those who’d formed some friendships in the first few days decided to work together, but since Fernanda didn’t really know anyone… She’d have to go out of her way and ask strangers if they wanted to work with her.

The assignment was about writing a 10-page essay on a chosen subject from a list of ancient classical art periods. She really would rather do the work alone since 10 pages wasn’t exactly all that much, but the reason the teacher wanted them to form groups was because the list of options wasn’t very long, and each group would choose one topic.

Fern grumbled to herself, knowing that the teacher just didn’t want to have to review 30 different essays.

That aside… Who to ask? HOW to ask? Fernanda could totally see Mila or Grace just walking up to a group and asking without issue.

“Hey, Fernanda, do you have a group yet?”

What the fuck?

Fernanda turned to look to her left and saw two girls standing there. One was short and a bit overweight, with dark brown hair tied into a bun and large, square glasses. The other was a harsh contrast, being taller and very skinny with long, curly auburn hair.

“They said groups of three people at a minimum, so… would you like to work together?” the tall girl asked.

“...”

Okay, shocking, yeah, but if she were to pass up or fumble this chance, Fernanda would actually beat herself up with a bat.

“Um… N-No, no. I don’t have a group. Sure, let’s work together,” Fernanda said, slowly centering herself. The two girls looked relieved for a moment, which was a surprise. Still, she had to ask because it WAS a little strange. “I… don’t think we’ve talked before, though.”

The two girls stiffened, and this time the shorter girls answered. “Ah! S-Sorry. We… happened to see one of your drawings in your notebook and thought it was really good. Then… we saw your name in the attendance list.” The professors would hand out a sheet of people for everyone to check their own attendance, and the list had everyone’s names, so… yeah, it tracked. “Is… that too weird?” the girl asked with a nervous grin.

Fernanda chuckled. “You know, I would’ve probably done the same.”

The two girls laughed with her.

“I’m Susan, by the way,” the short girls said.

“I’m Sara,” said the tall girl. It made Fernanda raise an eyebrow.

“Sarah? With an H at the end or without?” Fernanda asked.

“Without. Why?” Sara asked, seemingly just curious.

“Sorry, I have a… friend named Sarah. With an H at the end, haha.” Fernanda looked around and noticed that, while groups were forming, only a few of them had picked their topic. “So… Which era do you two want to choose for the essay?”

“I was thinking ancient Greece?” Susan said, looking to and from Sara and Fernanda.

“I’m okay with that,” Fernanda said.

“So am I,” Sara said.

“I’ll go tell the professor,” Susan said, going to the front of the classroom and.. leaving Sara and Fernanda alone for the moment.

“So… Sorry that we came out of nowhere,” Sara said with a wry smile.

“No, it’s fine. You saved me, really. I didn’t know who to do the work with,” Fernanda admitted, smiling back. “So thanks. But… why me?”

Ugh, she was doing so well so far, but the insecurities came crawling back to the surface and she asked before she realized it.

“So… Like Susan said, we saw your drawings. We like that same show, so… We figured why not?” Sara said, again with a nervous smile.

Now, this might sound dumb, but… that little interaction, talking while looking at Sara in the eyes made her realize… that not everybody has it all figured out, and that others can be pretty awkward at times, too.

You just… don’t have to let that stop you.

Maybe… Maybe this year really would be different.

I love Fern. Such a well written character of someone suffering with social anxiety and self esteem issues . Seeing her grow as her own and as part of the group has been heartwarming . All the characters have had their chance to shine and can’t wait to see what else you do with them.

I think it’s great to see things from the girls perspective. More of that! 🙏
