Hey Peaches! It has finally happened! The Ouroboros has begun to eat it's tail. We're reacting to ourselves!

As some of you may have known, we traveled to Spain a couple of weeks ago to shoot a new project. It's a travel show starring Cha Boys reactin', reviewin', and riffin' as we take in the sights, and famous shooting locations, in a foreign country.

Our new friend Micheal, who pitched this idea to us last year, has been hard at work on editing our first day in Spain. So we decided to sit down and watch his rough cut and we wanted to share it with all of you. But this is not just for fun. We NEED YOUR HELP! We would very much like your notes on this. What works, what doesn't. Your favorite moment or joke. What would improve the viewing experience?

This is the most Behind the Scenes we've ever gotten. So jump on in on the ground floor and watch as we watch ourselves and help us craft this new project!

tRavel'd Day 1 rough cut reaction

Comments

Robb Reid

WOW. Count me in.

Jaycee Williams

I'm programming our student film festival right now so I have been watching and scoring short films for WEEKS, and it feels like it has all been training for this moment.

Chaos Owner

"Livin' la Vida Loca" is copywrited, correct?

Jaycee Williams

My suggestions: Maybe some of the time you could add in graphics of answers to the questions you ask? For example: "What is this? It's not an escalator..."etc. and then text could pop up and answer the question? You could also do “character intros” where you introduce yourself (kinda like in Jumaniji: Welcome to the Jungle, where you have funny stats). Could help people who don’t know you find the vibe. For example: Adam: Cat person, eats exactly five (5) foods, might be a robot or a vampire. Jay: grown up theater kid, laughter that could fill a monsters inc canister, optimist with anxiety, etc. They could also include a graphic of “Americans in Europe” counter of things that surprise Americans in Europe: the ball cap thing, the small elevator, the key card in hotel rooms, etc.

This could all fit into a “video game” style editing, including the “sleep meter” idea and the backpack shots. You could also add like “end of day stats” of like how far you walked, things you accomplished, meals you ate, # of backpack shots, etc.

Also, I’m sure as you add music and tone, the pacing will feel quicker. You guys have some really funny stuff in here, and I can’t wait to see a real cut!

Snowcone Guy

Maybe watch some of the Conan travel shows (the newer ones) to see the golden ratio of how to cut the tourist parts and the comedy parts together for this to work the best. Otherwise, I would say only keep the jokes that made yourselves laugh. The presence of laughter is as contagious as its absence.

Jason Graf

Hello this is Jason, I’m very trustworthy, but also a scoundrel. Thoroughly enjoyed the rough cut! Your chemistry and comedy work just as well on the street as in the studio. I completely agree with all of your notes on added context, tempo, gfx increase, music, etc. The moment that really stuck out was when you picked up recording after being told you couldn’t record inside that hall. Having a moment where the two of you reflect on the shared experience was really nice and felt like a natural capper on that segment. Look forward to seeing more. J

joka

Honestly I feel like most of what I felt about ideas for the video were kind of in line with all the stuff Jay was saying anyway. It's hard to really think of anything super insightful to add as it is pretty raw and stuff like the music, more informative graphics, leaving out like a second here and there where it's quiet before you guys start talking/doing something; all of those you mentioned will immediately make it super fun. Either way, this footage looks so fun and I was definitely fully laughing out loud at many parts, so I'll be ready to watch this in whatever form it takes, this looks so cool:)

Bee-Tea

I’m Bee-Tea and I’m the most trustworthy. Im the first to show up at parties. As for comments, Jay you honestly touched on things I would also recommend. Tightening up the silent walking bits, voiceover context, fun fact pop-ups. I love the idea of an energy meter at the top to show how exhausted y’all were. I’m really looking forward to seeing your brand of humor in a foreign country and hearing your catchphrases and laughter as you’re making your way🎶 through Spain! Well done, everyone!

Chaos Owner

Ok, my trustworthiness has not passed 2 step verification, but here's my reaction: 1.Thanks for sharing this footage. The country looks gorgeous and it's interesting to see you guys in a new space. 2.I agree with the assessment of needing context...some of which was provided by you explaining things in your studio. Perhaps the MTV Real World confessional route or voice over could solve this issue. 3.I agree that a few more graphics like a video game energy level (full peach, half peach, peach pit?) or a count of "lost in translations" like the store window baby. 4.Theme music (perhaps with Adam being listed before Jay) to set it apart from the reaction content Great job to all those involved, and I can't wait to see more

Jon Kay

I'd echo the above re the general condensing/sharpening of the edit, but especially agree with everyone on the music and graphics - I think maps done well/humorously would be a great way to add context and explain where you're going, and extra graphics like explanatory comments and snippets of contextual narrative (perhaps including more stock shots of where you are vs the camera on you to contextualise like the "Game of Thrones Bridge"). Or even to articulate an "editorial" voice like you're giving in your reaction (for example when you guys react to Jay's comment about "best city" there could be a beat and a "we never saw another the whole trip" or similar quip, or if you want to add a little detail like the trees being orange trees, you could drop a brief label to that effect). Speaking of which, a health/jetlag/sandwich status bar to illustrate where you are on the exhaustion curve could be neat and funny :) A bit of me likes the idea of an overarching narration to tie it together, but I'm not sure how to do that and keep your interaction on camera to the fore.

Jon Kay

Plus being a child of the 80s, I kept mentally inserting a Crocodile Dundee clip when you were discussing the bidet!

Kris

I agree the "Ghost Wife" needs more context. Same with the tightening up. There are some walking parts where it's silent, and maybe some narration could go there? Give context where you're at, where you're going, etc. This may be the foodie in me, but I wanted to see offerings at dinner/lunch. The banter is strong, and loveable. I feel like that's definitely what will make you both endearing to a newer/wider audience.

fivefingers_through_fire

Son of a seabiscuit, I just accidentally deleted my entire spiel 🫠 ok…lemme retype that…

Smidge84

This was a delight! My biggest note was going to be around adding more context for people and places. I love the other suggestions of pop ups, maps & graphics. I think adding those and the cut ins with you in the studio to talk and tell more stories is a great idea. Even while exhausted y’all’s chemistry shines through. I can’t wait to see more!

fivefingers_through_fire

In fewer words… What went well 1. Your dynamic, specifically riffing on each other 2. Agree that you can double down on graphics 3. The moment of reflection outside the Mezquita What I would want more of: 1. An overarching framing device or conceit, to help give context to the trip as a whole

Joey (Hustlemando)

You guys know I am the MOST trustworthy, my references include Shoesan and your very own Greg from HR. Guys this was great, and it made me laugh quite a bit. I echo what suggestions have already been made, only other thing I was thinking was that the theme music could maybe be some parody of “We built this city” tailored to Spain. Idk what’s allowed with copyright though. Oh and Greg said he thinks you guys should let him do the narrating parts. I can’t wait to see the next episodes!

Miki

•OMG, I love Bring Your Patrons to Work Day! •The context early on was helpful. It's good to know why you're there, and why an audience who doesn't know you would care. Maybe a voice over for the edited version? •I like the banter on the train. • I like the idea of a graphic tracking your Increasing sleepiness • The vizier jokes in the courtyard 😂 • agree that additional context would be helpful. A big part of watching travel shows for me is learning new things and asding to my bucket list. This was so much fun! Can't wait to see the footage from the rest of the trip.

David Arroyo

A couple of things my reference (wife) and I were thinking 1- I would not go out and record places on the first day, your trip from the airport to the hotel was fun but your energy crashed once you left the hotel, you could tell you were exhausted and you guys were not at 100% 2 - I like the introspective moments after the cathedral (where you couldn't film), I think that would be a great thing to feature more of, how did what you see make you feel? what does it remind you of? What do you love about it? 3- the tittles and jokes by your editor totally works. More of that would be great. 4- I would have your camera man record you more from the front than the back because seeing your faces as you react to your environment is kinda key 5 - just an idea but maybe if you did a little mini contest, like find ghost wife or some small running gag, have the viewer post it in the comments for bragging rights. It's like MVP of the peaches.

Dakota Hogge

"Who do you think you are! I am!".. Adam I got that reference

Cschoeny

"I can feel your gun digging into my hip" Spoiler alert: Einhorn is Finkle.

michael denny

You can trust me not to be trusted. For sure music something 80s or local music of some kind to put the viewer there with you. For sure needs an Adam eats something other than peanut butter segment every episode.

9lz

LOVE the idea of cha boys travelling show, 10/10 no notes. Since it's my job to nag you about Wheel of Time, you should really have a look at WoT filming locations, there's alot of awesome places to see!

Bernard Manansala

It's a little disorienting "Hearing" you two react to yourselves. That's some pReview'd INCEPTION Sh!t

Change Comics

Okay Trustworthy Beaver Right Here In Good Ol’ Change Comics I really like it so far! I think the added visuals for sleepiness levels and the idea of trying to get your faces more is a smart idea and definitely some music as well! I think in a narrative sense, I think having bits of you guys in the studio explaining the context of some things and doing narration would definitely help. Even an intro talking about some facts and things you knew about Spain before going to help with the flow and understanding as well! Also music for the background is great but you’ll have to find the best music that can be edited to help punch up the joke. Like the Wayne’s World bit. There can be some music then it cuts as soon as Jay goes “No? Well crap” and then heads to the next scene Also some tiny videos of imagery in the area can really help with transitions into new sections of the episode. At least that’s what I’ve seen with other travel shows Overall loved it!

Tim Pappot

Loved it. Maybe some things should be a little shorter, but overall it looks great! Hope y’all had fun in our Europe. Next time, come up to the Netherlands. Oh, and my reference is; I was one of the people (maybe the one person) who told Omni to tell you two to watch Wednesday

Drakoni

Trustworthy peach here. Awesome project! Can't wait to see the final product. I'll list some of what I've noticed, some have already been said in other comments, I'll still repeat them. Wall of text incoming. 1) Your chemistry 100% comes actross. To me that's the main draw of a show like this, to see you two be you but in the context of seeing a different place. So I think it's good to have that be the main content, your banter, you talking about what you see, what is different to what you know. Americans react to Europe are very popular on Youtube :D 2) Really like all the fonts and editor bits. For the backpack ones, maybe actually put in the picture you took with a little snap shot sound or something like that. I like the sleepy meter idea. And agree there should be some context of where you are. A little note pop up of where you are, while we transition into that place, maybe add a map? And then have the scenes of you being there, talking about it. 3) Pacing: Right now, it does feel a bit slow at times. Think you could be more snappy with transitions from A to B, then have a longer, slower scene, then again a snappier cut transition to the next point. Once you add music that will help for sure. Did you record any B-Roll? Because while I enjoy watching you, the camera is on you guys a LOT and doesn't stray far. Which is the main content but I think some inbetween cuts of showing us what you're looking at. I don't know if you have that, but if you do, you could use that more imo. Just mix it up a bit more if you have the footage for it. I really liked the shot of you guys on that balcony. 4) The intro: I think hearing you talk about the project from the off, while we see you arrive could be helpful. Get us in, you tell us why we should be excited. The way many other youtubers do this in Vlogs like this, is to have a quick cut of what will happen later. Personally not the biggest fan of that but it seems to be working with how many do it. I think once you add you in the studio talking about it, that will be the glue to this. Give it a throughline. Thinking further if you get to do more of these. I think I would have liked to hear you talk about the project and your expectations BEFORE you leave, to for example hear while we see you arrive. What do you expect the place to be, the people, the food, the weather, the language. What do you know from previous experience, what are you excited or worried about. These sorts of things. In the react context here, you could fill in some of the gaps, now you just need to get that into the video somehow. But seems like you have ideas for that and I think you're very much on the right track! Great work! Already looking forward to see more of the trip \o/

Bladefire

The video was fun, Cordoba Spain is now on my list of places to go. Suggestions: little info boxes like in a "pop-up video" from MTV, the sleepy-meter, love the backpack counter it's one of Adam's things, and the "we are here" text. Respect to 'y'all trying to do stuff the day you land from a long plane ride, but it's hard. Maybe focus more on the "hey we awake on the second day let's go do the things!"

KSchwenk89

Banter was top tier! I like the idea of adding a sleep scale / tracking sleep levels. Love the graphics and agree that more location information would be helpful. Also, agree that adding music would be helpful.

ZenJedi

Love this so much!! Fantastic rough cut. My feedback: Even through the sleep deprivation, your chemistry was right where it needed to be. Your banter translates well outside of the green screen theater we know and love. I think you guys are right: tighten up the editing and more context overall to help build a bit of a narrative to it. You guys setting it up at the top, more graphics, and adding music will help it all flow and keep that retention up. Love the backpack shot counter. This is a great example of what Jay was saying about the graphics as the third tier of bits. The tracked location cards are fantastic, too. I’d maybe skip (or rework) the walking through the airport gate at the top, and start immediately with the “Muy Caliente”. The walking wasn’t that strong of a visual hook. But overall, great shots, and some great jokes that had me tearing up laughing. “Bideeeeeeeeeeeeet!!” Hahaha. Can’t wait to see the final product! And I’m a video editor (mostly marketing stuff), so I’m kinda trustworthy?

Aaron Mauthe

i love the edits. they remind me of br... brian???'s notes and corrections in the fixit videos. also love that jay references his owed 1000$ not 10 minutes before adam guesses the same musical. you do this to yourself jay. eventually he's gonna be right again.

Aaron Mauthe

i fully support a JetLag bar. also jay, when you guys do england, i fully expect that absolute queen of a performance to be reprised at a bridgerton themed event.

Eileen

I understood the bowling reference!

KimberlyG85

Hello! This is great! I think some VO on where you were and what the meaning of this place.

Memento Mori

ooo-I love these suggestions!

FiberTerian

"we've swapped places" Literally, you're on the opposite side of the world, so on the opposite side of the screen right out of the gate. Wild! I agree with your instincts on tightening it up. Was there any B roll shot? If not, is that something Michael could do after the fact? It might be interesting to have an establishing shot of the locations. That could add a ton of time to your shooting days for the future but can be helpful to build the context. The sound was fantastic, btw! Editing idea for the babies in the window. Show the zoom into the babies first, then cut to Adam earlier saying, "anyone else see these creepy babies" I think making it less linear might work for some of you edits and I love the graphics and agree you need more. Looking forward to more of this!

Breanna Williams

Trustworthiness: On a scale from "cryptid 3rd cousin who calls after inheritance drops" to "I would trust you with my phone for 24 hours", I have been called A Tentpole of a Community on the internet. This was. So charming. So wholesome. Such a breath of fresh air. It felt like the natural progression of wanting people to be in on the bit, but now the people are in on the adventure. I love the vibe and the pacing. The history nerd in me would love to see text on screen about the places you're visiting, but Imma be real, I don't need it! I would happily watch every episode if it was just this and nothing else, what an absolute delight.

Robert Webber

Adam, that "And by bennies you mean Benedictions, right?" was a solid gold 10/10 joke right from the hip. Bravo.

Black Crow

Yeah I think VO at the beinging of who you are, and background, where you were leaving from etc would help. Or even little pop up facts like pop up video style. I love how this feels like a BBC Travel Vlog too.

DP

The fact u took an elevator to the first floor and it was like literally 8 steps had me dying

Trish Murphy

So I’m a month late watching. I don’t want you to think that makes me or my comments less trustworthy I haven’t seen the trip yet, just the intro. Honestly I think I should preface any comments yo give you a state of mind reference. My Dad died May 17th which was 5 months after we lost my brother. I I was a daddy’s girl my whole life. I’m holding it together but only started commenting on videos in the last couple days I don’t know what to expect from your trip so I don’t know how I’ll react. Hopefully it’s the beginning of something great. No pressure though. Ok. Here we go & again, sorry I’m late ✌️💚

The2ndQuest

I'd agree with your assessments- it felt like it was missing the "mission"/destination of the day that all the other, more random stuff (or moments that would seem more random if the material surrounding them has to be cut for any reason) could be interspersed with. Using the studio as that framing device would likely facilitate that well. And though it wouldn't necessarily work with the material and structure you have now (you'd have to film specifically with it in mind), there could be something amusing to mine in the premise that only Jay acknowledges/talks to the camera, while Adam is Backpack Adam oblivious to the 4th wall Jay is breaking. ...until the season finale twist when Adam reveals to the camera that he's been aware of the camera and Jay the entire time. Main character reveal! Mwhaha! ;) As for my trustworthiness- I have it on good authority from my wall decor that my comments are the fairest of them all.

President Skroob: "Forget it! No more [elevators]! This time I'm gonna walk!"

Claire Deeley

I'm late to watching but am excited to catch up. In order to be the most helpful I'm trying to watch it from the perspective of a viewer who doesn't know previewd (although I'm a long time fan). I agree overall it needs more context, structure and quicker pacing. A lot of that will happen during the edit, no doubt. Is the point of the trip just to see Spain? To visit historical sights? Try new foods? Visit filming locations? Setting that up will go a long way, as well as setting up who each of you are and why it entertaining to watch you experience a foreign country ( the emotional father and the straight man etc) Your banter is pretty good, but if I didn't know who you guys were I'd probably be like, why am I watching these guys wander around? Maybe an intro that shows a bit of who each of you are and some of your personas from the show. Maybe interviews with you guys that could be interspersed throughout. Can't wait to see what happens next! Excited for you guys on this new venture!
