Before getting to the episode. I wonder how many of those first frame counts will be people with autoplay enabled. I disabled it because I couldn't even look at a thumbnail and it messed up my algorithm. But I doubt many bother disabling it. So that number might also show to how many people a video is even shown.

Mister_Momus

You mean the autoplay from hovering over a thumbnail?

Drakoni

That or from scrolling past on mobile

Now imagine you are at some future con or reactor meetup and talking with someone about Game Changer and they mentioned this episode or the ones with Giancarlo Esposito and Tony Hawk and you had skipped this season of Game Changer. How mad would you be at yourselves and at the people down here in the comments who told you to skip this? It's fair to think the re-watchability of this season isn't as good as the others, but first time through folks skipping it are definitely missing out on some neat ideas and entertainment.

We can see how many people have seen our videos. There's a fine line between first frame and an engaged view. I don't remember if we talked about it that deeply in this video (Jay and I talked A LOT so it's easy to forget where we said something) but first frame views is more of a psychological thing than monetization thing. Bigger numbers make creators feel good about all the work they put in, and it also entices viewers to give the video a chance if a lot of people have watched it.

Drakoni

Yeah, this is the video where you talked about that. I've seen others argue that it's part of YT still trying to be TikTok. Tho I feel both can be and probably are true. I also understand some saying that it will make views less valuable, meaningful but as long as it's additional information to the analytics you already have, instead of replacing any, it shouldn't matter behind the scenes.

This is why I'm convinced most who told them to skip, skipped it themselves. I get it, I also want them to get to the more recent episodes. And on a rewatch I'll watch a few favourites. I'll never miss out on Giancarlo Espasito, Tony Hawk and Michael Winslow. And telling Previewd to skip the Jeopardy/TTRPG one?!

I have a bad habit of looking at YouTube on my breaks at work. I’ll click on a video and quickly get out of it to keep it in my history to watch after work. I’ve never thought about that possibly screwing up the stats for my favorite creators.
