Watch as we intently stare at the background for anyone walking with a purpose. We trying to figure out the rules as our characters do there best to stay on the move.

Definitely a movie that I loved when it came out, I agree it doesn't quite hold up in 2026 as much. Music and camera work is still super cool, though. And I didn't realize until this watch through how much yonic imagery there is. Pink clamshell phone, O'Keefe-esque flower lamps, puca shells, etc.

the thing with this movie is that its meant to be a dream. it just starts and then it just ends leaving you with the obligation to ask yourself why it was. the time period is non-existent, it takes place in small town USA, the rules for it do kinda exist but are never fully set in stone, etc. this movie is like an extended dream sequence character analysis not a lore dump world building thing which makes the fact that a sequel called They Follow recently wrapped filming. I really wonder what its gonna be about and if it will keep this same vibe

You know, I disagree with the Newhart thing, although I get why you arrived there. Could it be more about mismatched expectations? Like... this movie is very much not like Weapons or Obsession, and if you go in with that in mind, it's probably going to feel weird. It Follows is more about mood and dread than any concrete answers. Which I do think would ruin it btw. I am wary of They Follow, though I'll give it a fair shake. The Ring comparison is right on the money though, and maybe even more with the original. It Follows fits right in with something like Ringu or Ju-on: The Grudge in that if the curse gets you, you're fucked. It doesn't matter how kind you are, or how smart you are, or what you accomplish on your journey. You cannot stop it, and it will destroy you. Western horror (not always but often) tends to put more of the burden of what happens to the character on their shoulders. If you hadn't bought the suspiciously cheap house, you wouldn't be in a haunt. If hadn't you played with a oujia board, you wouldn't be possessed, etc. And there's like... a whole dissertation in there somewhere about why that's the case, but this is a patreon comment and it'd be a huge bummer, lol. Yapping over: thanks for the reaction! I enjoyed revisiting this movie (and especially the soundtrack; god Disasterpiece slaps). Also looking forward to the End of Oak Street! Annie Hathaway is delight as ever, but I'm curious what y'all think.

This movie walked so Backrooms could run, tbh. (You should watch all the official Backrooms stuff on Kane parsons’ actual YouTube channel, btw)

I just wanted to give you a different perspective on watching horror. For me, watching you guys react to MCU, DCU, all the anime and good stuff we all like is fantastic. But seeing you guys get out of your "comfort zone" and react to stuff that you genuinely would not (probably) watch yourself is VERY cool. It helps that horror is my favorite genre so I am LOVING you guys doing this stuff. You have a patreon member for as long as you guys have a reaction channel

My husband, the horror fan of the two of us, is thrilled you watched this. He believes the whole movie is a metaphor for life, the end of childhood (the kids always talking about their childhood memories, teh water representing the transition from children (backyard-pool) to adulthood (death pool), but at the point it's reached, it's tainted (blood in the water). He thinks the water represents life, and the film is creating a mood of existential dread where the only thing certain is Death. And Death is always following. Anyway! Enjoyed watching it w/ you guys and chatting with him about it afterwards :)
