Happy Birthday to me (Patreon)

Haha today I'm 46... time flies! I am of course spending it at home with my wife and pets ;)

I explain why I'm abandoning the model of "BIG VN/RPG hybrid with huge cast" :P

As I wrote it's not much about the money (which is still a factor anyway, because embarking on such huge project is risky for sure) but personal health. I literally was broken after finishing PS2 and for the first time since I'm indie, I started having weird thought like quitting and so on! :O

Scary stuff indeed. So my future titles will be "shorter" but you must not mistake short for bad. On the opposite since I'll plan carefully each game in length and gameplay, I think the result could even be better than some games in which I just thought to put a lot of content but without a clear vision.

For RPG fans, while I'm not doing anymore games like PS2, I still have that Dingirra game planned. It is big, but I'll have only 1 character, 1 vs 1 fights. Not sure yet how (if Puzzle Quest style or something else) but as you can imagine, designing/balancing 1 vs 1 fights is VERY different from a party-based RPG with 10 skills each character and so on!

Also the "nomads game", will probably turn it into a sort of strategy/card game hybrid. I am brainstorming several ideas but every time keeping in mind time and budget to avoid being burned out or spending too much in a moment of such financial insecurity.

Lastly, since I canceled Roger Steel, it's a pity to not use all those assets already done! I am thinking of doing one of those smaller games to try to recoup a bit of the investment (the CGs were many and of good quality). Indeed,it could be a good way to test the match3 engine I'm working on since past year. That will be a simple, cheap game so basically every patron will be able to get it once is finished no matter if I'll price it 6.99-7.99, every one pledging $5 will be able to get it from here.
