FULL CHAPTER HERE —> AGAINST MY WILL 13B
Green eyes blinked open slow and bleary as Orin came up out of it the way he’d been coming out of sleep all week; mouth open in a yawn wide enough to hurt and one hand flat on the concrete wall beside the mattress.Even without a clock and the bulb above his head off — meaning all he had to see with was the strip of light from the stairwell hallway running 24/7 — he could tell it was morning. The pipe banging on the far wall let him know that much, a good chunk of people on the first floor running a bath to head to work.Alright. Orin lay on his back, hand held up over his face. Even in the dark, the ring put out just enough light that Orin could make out his hand perfectly; the thing like a little glowstick he didn’t have to crack to get working. It was the small things like that; stuff that reminded Orin to be thankful for the super-weapon in the shape of a ring. Can’t be ungrateful about it.Even with the shit user-experience, the thing had also, in order: kept him breathing in the full-on black vacuum that was outer space, then it let him survive re-entry burning down through the atmosphere, and then it ate the whole impact of the landing. All wrapped up in green, he may have made a crater wherever he landed but he also survived that fucking crater instead of being some crispy jelly at the bottom of it.…can jelly get crispy?Past even that, the night he got the ring back on him, he was sure the jewelry had gone through his blood and started pulling out the worst of what they put in him.Even before the fight, he’d blinked a few times as the green crawled inside him like it had over him, veins no longer burning as he felt the worst of that fog clear his brain. It hadn’t taken him too long to work out the math, connecting the dots on how the ring had clocked what wasn’t supposed to be there and just— cleared it out.
That was some top-tier efficiency, and for something that barely understood English…Impressive.Thank you. For real.
