The world rocked Clint entirely off his feet, the floor rising up to meet him as he went flying in one motion. His body was mid-air, already through the open stairwell door and spinning across concrete with a hard grunt. The agent landed hard, his sudden stop several levels past uncomfortable; the world still twisting and turning as a ringing loud in his ears almost drowned out everything else.
Two breaths was all he could get in, his chest tight. The… Clint Barton forced himself upright before the rest of him was ready, all the years of ops work that had gotten him as high as Level Seven in SHIELD enough to get him back into a crouch. The hell?
He blinked up and up and up, hand gripping tight around his bow as his eyes refused to lie to him and his brain caught up with the fact that the ‘open floor plan’ behind him had gained a whole new meaning.
The far end of the room didn’t exist anymore, an entire north wall the floor once had nowhere to be seen as smoke and fire crept in at the edges of open rebar and building material. “Jesus Chri-!”A lungful of burning mess — drywall, carpet and people — choked the words before they fully made it out of him, Clint coughing more and more until something came up; a dark mass flying free with blood in it. That’s not good.He didn’t have time to think about how good it was or wasn’t, no opportunity to run the inventory as comms came back to life spitting static and garbage in between actual words. He’d always felt almost deaf since his eyes had become what they were, the world in his ears almost silent compared to what he could make out with a blink but…“—alph# two, a##a two, do you—”But this was so much worse.“—##rything on twelve is gone, it’s ###—”“—Beta le##, B### lead, respond t#—”Clint grunted through gritted teeth, the agent hauling himself all the way up. “Of course.” He hacked around the words, more bloody spit leaving his mouth and hitting the landing alongside him. “Of course they had explosives.”
