“—awl in normally quiet streets behind the Red Lion English pub in Chicago. Two of the Ultimates met in combat not against an external threat, but each other. The event is still fresh in the minds of the locals in this neighborhood, with residents describi—”Orin blinked up at the sixty-inch TV, oversized and bulky back mounted into the wall at the far end of the bar. Green eyes blinked up at it with almost the same sort of focus he usually had for his ring.Grainy and shot at night, the footage that stared back at him was undoubtedly from somebody’s shitty camcorder. Even with a chain-link fence in the way, it didn’t matter in the slightest because there was no chain-link fence in the world that could manage to hide a sixty-foot naked man getting the brakes beat off him in an empty construction lot.Especially when America’s First Hero was the one doing it.“Just two weeks ago today, Captain America was caught on camera in a candid confrontation with his teammate and famous scientist Henry Jonathan Pym, commonly known as The Giant-Man of the Ultimates, reportedly due to allegations of domestic abuse and the attempted murder of his wife, and other Ultimates member, Janet Pym.”Attempted murder? Eyebrows went up as Orin kept staring, almost unable to believe what he was hearing. Domestic Abuse? The words ‘Ultimates At Odds’ ran beneath the footage of Steve Rogers straight-up dog-walking a kaiju of a man, ‘Two Weeks Ago’ beneath that in smaller white lettering. “How are they already having their own Civil War?”A laugh burst out from three different mouths at a table across the bar, a group of older white guys chuckling into their glasses. One of them in plaid, a gray shirt underneath, held his higher up; foam tickling his moustache. “Civil War, kid?”One hand waved up at the TV, the guy still laughing. “Ain’t that a bit dramatic?”“Shut the hell up, Kenny.” The guy next to ‘Kenny’ didn’t even turn around. “I like it.”“Yeah…” The third one swallowed a mouthful of cold gold beer. “That’s hilarious.”Orin ducked his head into his own glass of water, sipping as he tried to make sense of it. Three months. A team for a whole three months. It really didn’t make sense but none of this was making a lot of sense. He set the glass down next to his menu, both of them given to him by the bartender when he came in here with a genuine plan to enjoy himself with a treat. That plan was quick to get hijacked by the sight of one-third of America’s premier super-team coming apart on television.
