Shibari in Japan. Full interview with Knot.Bunny (Patreon)

Guys this is an INSANE conversation resource-wise. Take your time to listen to this if you are planning to to do shibari in Japan!
What is the Shibari scene in Japan actually like... and how do you find it if you don't speak Japanese?
In this episode of Not Just Ropes, I talk with Knot.Bunny about her experience diving deep into Japanese Shibari and kinbaku culture while traveling through Japan.
She visited rope studios, Shibari and SM bars, took classes, got tied by different Japanese practitioners, explored the rope communities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, and learned firsthand how different the experience can be from Shibari communities in other parts of the world.
We talk about how she actually found these places, why X/Twitter is so important in Japan, using Google Translate, meeting local rope people, what it's like entering Shibari spaces as a foreigner, getting tied in Japanese bars, differences in negotiation and consent culture, intensity and aesthetics, rope safety, love hotels, and some of the places she would personally visit again.
If you're interested in Shibari in Japan, Japanese kinbaku, Tokyo rope culture, Shibari bars, rope studios or traveling to Japan as a Shibari practitioner, this conversation gives you something a simple directory can't: the experience behind the places.
🇯🇵 COME TO JAPAN WITH ME - MARCH 25–31, 2027
I'm hosting a very small 7-day journey through Tokyo and Kyoto called The Art of Shibari: A Curated Journey of Discovery in Japan.
We'll combine Shibari training with some of the Japan experiences I love most: cherry blossom season, Tokyo exploration, the historic Yoshiwara district, a Japanese food-replica workshop, bullet train travel, kintsugi in Kyoto, Arashiyama, Gion and a tea ceremony with a maiko.
