Mexico City exhibition (Patreon)

Here is my description of the Black room and a little bit of insight into how I got this Idea. next post will be about how making an exhibition in Mexico city became possible and it`s process. I hope you`ll like to read about it!
So, Black room is very simple. This is what I see and feel in the same time. What is it?
One evening in Puerto Escondido I went to the beach, surprisingly, it wasn`t raining or storming, so I just stayed on the beach for a while looking at the ocean and listening to it. The sky was very clear, I imagined a lot of constellations lines in my mind.Looking at the ocean it looked like there was a reflection of the sky in there, felt weird and made me think if it is real, or just my imagination? Whatever it was, it inspired me a lot. I felt like i need to share this feeling with more and more people.
Another influence there was Dia de Muertos. It was very close and I loved being in Mexico on this very special time of the year. I learnt a lot about Day of the Dead and then talked to locals i met, they gave me so much information to think about. Inspired by the story of the Dead coming on boats, following orange flowers, and the traditional atmosphere at home on this day (it`s quite a sad day: family gets together to remember the dead, quiet place is by the special altar with pictures of the dead, bread, flowers and candles.)
So, I felt that that quiet ocean atmosphere was very close to sacred Day of the Dead evening. That is why in my installation there can be only 4-5 people inside the room, listening to the ocean and enjoying the rope-wave with skulls on it. Rope represents the reflection of the constellations, in a perfect world, ofc =)
Visitors could move objects in the room how they wanted to. I made it possible to move flowers, skulls and candles, because as a foreigner showing my reflection of a very important day in Mexican culture, I wanted Mexican people to correct me, to bring their view into my installation, so it becomes not just my work, but ours.
Thank you for reading this =) In the next post I will tell a story and give insights into making this exhibition!
