phenomenal reaction! a lot of reactors either didn't really care, or they were more angry than upset by the ending. it's such a seismic shift for the show, killing off someone so important to Dexter's character/growth. it's so brutal but poetic.

Just finished the reaction and as a few have already said amazing reaction. It’s my fourth time watching this episode and it gets me everytime. So much more brilliant episodes to come. Arthur Mitchell has to be the best villain so far in the show because he’s the only villain who “won”. Sure, Dexter killed him, but Arthur went out knowing that Dexter was going to walk into his home to find Rita dead.

I dreaded watching this episode with you. I thought maybe we should warn you, but that would have been wrong. We've all been where you are. Season 5 is amazing also. MCH gets cancer treatments between seasons and wears a wig in season 5.

It's incredible how Dexter develops as a character in this season. We saw how throughout the whole season he couldn’t balance his life as a killer, a family man, and a forensic analyst. In the first episodes, he didn’t like spending so much time with his family, as shown when Rita drove him to work and he tells us he can endure a few more days. Later, he realizes that he truly loves them after killing the police officer, and this episode drives it home that he really does love Rita in his own way, wishing that his dark passenger would go away. An amazing development of his relationship with Rita in this episode, only for all of that to be destroyed at the end when he sees the scene Arthur left for him in the bathtub. An outstanding season and one of the rawest and most real reactions I’ve ever seen.

Watching this episode, knowing what's coming, is so hard! It's without question one of the most shocking and heartbreaking moments in tv history. Rita was such a pure soul. This is truly the consequence of Dexter leading the police off the trail because HE has to be the one to end it, so because of his ego in a sense, Rita paid the price.

Well you recovered from that ending quick😂 went from crying to happily praising the season in couple of minutes. I was speechless for like two hours lol. Breaking bad route for Rita would've been better, there are many ways Dexter could've been taught a lesson. Rita represented light and hope, the show felt like it lost it's soul after this. I'm sure you'll like a lot of what happens in the future seasons, but I am curious if you'll agree that the way Dexters character gets written becomes annoying. In first 4 seasons it's fun to watch him develop and we always see how and why his character becomes different. But in the future there's so many random shifts and inconsistencies, it's like the writers forgot who he was. S5 is still pretty good, don't care for the rest.

Definitely one of the most shocking finales in TV history (GOT's red wedding wasn't a finale). After this episode originally aired, we all got a much needed 9 month break before moving on to season 5; I assume Dan's going to give us 5x1 next week. I wonder how Deb felt after her talk with Dex when he didn't say I love you back to her; "I'm so thankful" was probably a disappointing response.

If you go back to the scene where Dexter is about to kill Trinity, when Dexter starts talking about “his family” Arthur’s expression completely changes. He knows Dexter didn’t find out yet and he knows he will get the last laugh.

I wondered how many people stopped watching or considered no longer watching after this episode. I remember certain GOT and TWD episodes where people were so angry that they threatened to stop watching. There's a certain actor/character coming up (who plays twins in another series about serial killers) that I'm curious to see if Dan likes.

been waiting 4 seasons for this shit right here😭😭most heartbroken i’ve ever been watching a tv show, rita was pure innocence and died brutally, literally nothing to do with any of it just caught in the crossfire, rewatching this show season 4 episode 1 is also one of the hardest things i’ve ever watched every time i rewatch it, it was already gruesome and terrifying seeing arthur kill that girl in the bathtub, but knowing that’s how Rita spent her last moments on earth with harrison nearby… arthur naked in a bathtub behind her holding a knife and then slowly letting her bleed out it literally makes me so sick to my stomach i almost have to skip the scene on rewatches now

I wasn’t sure if it had been spoiled for you but your reaction says it all. I remember watching this with my parents and we saw how much time was left in the episode when he is on the boat looking at the moon and we already started spiralling. My mom called it but none of us actually believed it until the credits rolled. You’re right it is so shocking but especially with multiple viewings of the show it feels earned. It was intentional for the story of our main characters not just to get a viewer reaction. I love that each season of this show focuses heavily on a different theme as Dexter and Deb evolve. I know you love Jennifer Carpenter’s acting this season and called this her season but you’re going to love season 5 for her as well. I’m so glad no one is spoiling big stuff for you for this show. Season 5 is excellent as well. Very much enjoy watching you watch the series.
