Season 5 is definitely the most underrated season, you always see people saying "oh dude dexter 1-4 are peak then its downhill" nah S5 is easily better than S3, 2 is arguable.

This season is my personal favorite of the main show. Or at the very least in the top 3 along with season 2 and 4. Lumen and this season in general are incredibly underrated I think, it's good to see you enjoying it so much cause it definitely deserves the praise. I just think the massive shift from season 4 to 5 caused by Rita's death put a lot of people off.

One of the many here in comments who thinks this season is underrated. Dexter and Lumen genuinely need each other. He is moving on from his tragedy and his main focus is more on helping her than on killing for himself now, and he's opening up more and Lumen went through something even more horrific. That she'd ever let anybody touch her again after that, let alone instigate it speaks to how safe Dexter makes her feel while she in turn doesn't see a monster at all. It really is beautiful.

The face acting by MCH ( and Julia Stiles) in the love scene is beyond amazing. They both said so much without saying a word. One of my favorite scenes.

I'm so glad you appreciate this love story as much as I did. So many people miss the complexities of their relationship from both sides. The show runner for this season only worked for this season, but man, he knew how to write a romance. Dexter both healing from Rita's death and finding a relationship with someone he didn't have to hide from, and Lumen healing from her trauma by learning how to trust, and eventually, how to love again, was just so beautiful. This season has always been my favorite but I think so many people were angry with a new love interest so soon after Rita that they failed to appreciate how well this relationship was written and acted.

A rape victim finally able to have consensual sex again. A man finally able to move on after the death of his wife. I truly love how this episode ends. It’s also the first moment Dexter is not wearing his wedding ring all season
