Definitely one of my favorite movies of the year. Sinners is till my #1 but this is up there. I think they introduce you to the satirical-quirky nature of the movie early on when Perfidia tells Lockjaw to get it up lol It's a commentary, a critique, an expose and a satire all in one imo. This was my introduction to Paul Thomas Anderson and this was basically an adaptation of a book from like the 80s or 90s so I'm not sure what parts of the tone of this movie can be attributed to PTA or the og book, but I enjoyed the story and the characters. Everyone was so distinct and complex like you said. Great action and a great father-daughter story. I love that Bob/Pat was so bad at this, but was trying his very best to save his daughter and I love even more that we don't know if he ever knew he wasn't Willa/Charlene's biological dad. I've seen theories that might've known or figured it out around the time Lockjaw confronted him in supermarket after Perfidia left them and that he just put that aside to be her father regardless. But I like the thought that he never finds out because it doesn't really matter just as much. He IS her father.
