Sorry if spoiler but in the book, Ray wins. So watching this in theatres was a crazy experience, all the book readers were screaming at the ending

Arthur Fields

In the book, did Ray win, kill the Major, AND get away with it?

Arthur Fields

At the beginning of the movie, as soon as the Major arrived, Ray put on his hat. Looks like he was trying to hide his face so the Major wouldn't recognize him. He even turned his back to the Major when he took his hat off to put on his tag. Maybe he thought if he won at the end, the Major wouldn't give him a gun for fear of retaliation.

In the book Ray doesn’t even wish to kill the major he has gone so crazy/delirium from the walk that when he’s the last person walking he keeps on walking because “there is so much left to walk”

Hey just so you know since the ending is heavily theorized, the one that’s makes the most sense is that as he shoots the major he gets lit up and dies. That’s why no one’s there, he’s actually walking to the lights which is symbolic to heaven. Very sad ending and I loved it I think it’s better than the book.

I agree and the twist that Ray is the one that sacrifices himself had me on the edge of my seat

Had to sub after your YT Top 10 Movies of 2025 ranking and the reaction didn’t disappoint 🤣

I don’t think I ever screamed that loud before

Pete feels like a magical negro trope low key glad they had him win? I guess I am not sure the ending makes me feel like he died in the end anyway. And reading these comments if they had the other guy win....I'm glad they changed the ending even if he did die at the end. Cause if not it would've been a full magical negro stereotype lmao and I say this as a black person its just how i felt watching Pete
