Half the fun with these time travel stories is trying to figure what version of time travel they’re depicting. If the past is set in stone, then Jonas was always fated to leave Mikkel in the past and there was never truly a choice. But if the past isn’t set in stone, then Jonas really had the chance to save Mikkel and reunite him with his family but chose not to risk blipping himself out of existence.

I love how the show makes you think and question things. Like, imagine you were Jonas and had to make that choice - do you bring Mikkel back to his parents and thereby erase your own existence, or do you leave him to live out the life he already had, so you're still going to be born? It's such a mindfuck, and I love it! I've rewatched the show several times and still I notice new things I've never thought to notice before.

So yes Mikel’s class picture is there in 2019, but they don’t think to look bc they don’t know about time travel! If they find out about time travel and remember back they would realize they saw Mikel and Jonas in the past.
