Kayla McQuay — Between Sets
This was one of those in-between setups that ended up hitting way harder than it probably should have.
We weren’t planning anything crazy here—just moving between ideas, saw the tractor, and decided to run something quick. But that’s usually when things feel the most natural. No overthinking, no trying to force a concept—just working with what’s in front of you.
The environment did most of the heavy lifting. The tractor’s beat-up textures, the dirt, the structure of the metal—it all creates a really strong backdrop without needing to build anything out. It’s one of those situations where you don’t want to over-light or overcomplicate it, because you lose what makes it interesting in the first place.
Lighting-wise, this was more about keeping things clean and controlled rather than dramatic. Just enough shape to separate Kayla from the background while still letting the scene breathe. Nothing flashy—just solid, consistent light that holds up across every frame.
Composition came down to using the tractor as a frame. The tires, the arms, the bucket—they naturally guide your eye, so it’s just about placing her in ways that feel balanced but not stiff. Some shots lean more structured, others feel looser, almost like she’s just interacting with whatever’s there.
Kayla made this easy. She doesn’t need a ton of direction—she understands how to move, how to hold tension, when to soften things. That’s what lets something quick like this still come out looking intentional.
