An old red barn, cowboy boots, and a gingham bikini. Hard to go wrong with that combination. This set has a little of that classic country pinup feel, with warm sunlight and a setting that fits the look perfectly.

The colors are a big part of why these images work for me. Her red hair, the bikini, and the faded red of the barn all tie together, with the grass adding just enough green to break it up. Then you have the sunlight catching her hair and those long shadows stretching across the ground. There’s a lot happening photographically in a pretty simple setup.

I also like keeping enough of the surroundings in the frame that you get a sense of the place. The shape of the barn, the worn grass, and the tree in the foreground all give the photographs character. It’s an everyday rural setting, but put the right person in it with the right light and you’ve got plenty to work with.
