Cassandra | The Hayloft (Patreon)
Content
Weathered timber, stacked hay, and the open framework of an old barn give this series with Cassandra its character. There is a richness to the setting—the warm browns, the gold of the straw, the small openings of light between the boards—that rewards leaving room around the subject.
The black hat and tall boots give the photographs a western sensibility, while the fine detail of the lace sits against the rough surfaces of the building. The pitchfork becomes another line within the composition, echoing the upright beams and drawing the eye through the frame.
For me, some of the strongest photographs are the wider views beneath the rafters. Cassandra holds your attention, while the structure above her gives the image scale. Elsewhere, a closer crop or a turn toward the camera brings the emphasis back to her expression. Those changes give the sequence variety within a consistent setting and palette.
The ladder photographs bring another dimension to the series. Its worn steps create a simple framework around her, carrying the same attention to texture and form into a more intimate portrait.
Sharing the complete set here allows those different photographs to sit together, with room to appreciate the individual frames and the relationships between them. Thank you for supporting the work and making that possible.
