Weekly Update 13/2025 Why I Wrestled Genesis 9 (and Lost) (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone!
Time for our regular Friday check‑in. First things first: yes, the next game update is still on track for the end of May. I built some buffer days into my schedule exactly for weeks like this—good thing I did, because…
Real‑Life Plot Twists (a.k.a. “Developer Adventures”)
Monday: mysterious fever ➜ one full day in the horizontal position, starring in the thrilling indie film 'Sleeping Dev'
Thursday: MRI and a visit to the traumatologist for my long-suffering knees (military service souvenirs). Result: they’re still knees...just...will see...
Friday: national holiday + family time = mandatory AFK (and cake).
The Great Genesis 9 Experiment
With most of my “dev hours” this week, I tried something ambitious: converting Laura to Genesis 9 to see if the new tech is worth a full migration. After a lot of coffee and a small existential crisis, here’s what I learned:
1. Textures & UV Maps
- G9 uses the same PBR tech as G8.1—no visible quality boost.
- UV layout is completely different → mixing G8.1 and G9 skins in Photoshop is impossible.
- In theory, I can port my G8.1 textures to G9, but:
All masks and normal maps must be rebuilt.
G9 dForce hair shaders can’t read the old scalp UVS → hair mapping breaks.
Net result: to keep Laura’s look, I’d have to create a brand‑new G9 character from scratch.
2. Joints & Built‑in Muscle Deformation
- G9 has an integrated system that works with joints (especially hips/pelvis) more naturally.
- However, G8 already has third‑party HD muscle plug‑ins that achieve similar results.
- In many poses (e.g., arms up) G9’s chest deformation looks less natural than a well‑tuned G8.
- Both gens still break in extreme poses—just in different directions.
3. Asset Compatibility—Poses Are the Pain Point
- I own a massive G8 asset library; clothes convert fine, but poses are tricky.
- Auto‑conversion often twists the hip Y/Z rotation, making many poses unusable without manual fixes.
- Hand‑correcting hundreds of poses would nuke any time I hoped to save by “upgrading.”
4. Workflow & DAZ Interface
- G9 dumps morphs/shapes/poses into one giant parameter list instead of separate groups.
- I’d have to rebuild my entire custom toolbar/layout and rewrite helper scripts to regain speed.
- In short: migrating means a full tool‑chain rebuild, measured in weeks, not days.
5. Bust System—Breastacular & Jiggle
- G8/8.1: Breastacular clones the existing chest, and Breast Jig handles gravity jiggle nicely.
- G9 version works differently: you sculpt fresh breasts from zero, and there’s no jiggle plug‑in yet.
- Achieving a natural shape takes far more trial‑and‑error.
The One Genuine Plus – Golden Palace G9 female genitalia graft
It’s awesome. Way more realistic, flexible, and easier to shape than the G8 version.
But: one standout feature vs. a mountain of workflow breakage doesn’t justify the switch right now.
Bottom line: the experiment ate an entire dev week and ended with the verdict “G9 isn’t worth it (yet).” I’ll invest that energy into the remaster and new story content—results players will actually see.
“But… new teaser images?”
Because Laura spent the week doing science fiction body swaps, I don’t have shiny new story renders today. Instead, enjoy a before/after glimpse from the remaster project! 👇
TL;DR
I was ill, had medical appointments, and went on a family holiday = a slower week.
Spent dev time testing Genesis 9 → decided to stay on 8.1 (details above).
The next update for Special Request is still slated for late May—buffers are for the win.
Remaster keeps moving; enjoy the fresh “before/after” shots.
Regular teasers return next Friday!
Thanks for cheering me on—even when the week’s main boss fight is my software. Your support lets me take these detours, learn quicker, and ultimately give you a better game. 💜
Have a fantastic weekend,
