No Vinland? Sadge :(

chrisis

Bellamy joining the crew seems so wrong and out of place lol idk why jack keeps saying that

TripleZed

easy to say in hindsight but he got a lot of focus in the arc and its not uncommon for enemies to change allegiances and join the crew

chrisis

Yea true just feel like Bellamy always gave off reformed villain vibes instead of someone Luffy would actually ask to join

Silver -

I LOVE YOU JACK NO DIDDY

pablo

jack, corazon was a marine full on through

pepperomashka

hi Jacko Moria! as you remember, toys couldn't live with people because they were forced to go and work at the underground port at night. If Soldier-san wouldn't join to work like everyone, I guess Doflamingo subordinates would consider it very suspicious as well as citizens would also have questions! I guess that's why... Maybe he didn't go to port, I'm not sure, but anyways just living in a house would be dangerous

Jarmel

I thought you said Vinland today 😔 not complaining love dresrosa but 😔

Luck64

There isn't a clear reason as to why soldier san didn't stay with rebecca, it's a plot hole if you ask me. He wasn't under contract and was already a fugitive toy, so it's not like he was allowed in the toy factory as far as I know. Maybe he didn't think he deserved to stay under the same roof as her, but he definitely could have. Maybe it was explained better in the manga, so not 100% sure.

DiamonDust

We do know he was free of the mind control so he didn't go to port, but what do you think would happen if someone in the town they lived in noticed he was staying the night with Rebecca? They would get reported for the "human disease" they had where they thought toys went crazy and acted like humans... and Kyros would get captured as a result. Especially considering Kyros and Rebecca were both outlaws, they had to keep the lowest profile possible.

DiamonDust

Franky did worse to the crew yet he joined. With all the changes Bellamy went through and heavy focus he got alongside Luffy I'm sure others back in the day theorized he might join. The only thing I would have against Bellamy joining is that he isn't that likeable or interesting to me, but Oda could make him likeable and interesting quite easily if he wanted to have him become a crew member. I have no doubt that Oda could make it work.

chrisis

That’s definitely true about franky but my thing is do you see Bellamy fighting FOR Luffy and committing to the straw hats like the rest of the crew ? I don’t. It all goes back to his thing that came up in dressrosa about not switching sides the second he lost to doflamingo. I don’t see him just saying “well alright I guess I’ll join cause we’re friends now.”

DiamonDust

No, you do not need to worry about paying attention to the verbal tics characters have like Vice Admiral Bastille saying -dara at the end of all his sentences. As far as I know they are there to add individuality like the funny laughs Oda gives. I believe they can have also sometimes have meanings that would be understood by a Japanese speaking audience, whether it be a pun or just a certain style of speaking in Japan that has some cultural meaning. Even as a huge One Piece fan I have no idea wtf most of them are supposed to mean - if anything. Some are more obvious in meaning though even as an english speaker, it just depends. For example, if you see some cat themed character ending their sentences with "nya" or something similar you would likely understand why. Or if it's just an english word.

A Sagge

Let’s hope for a fair amount of Vinland this week

pepperomashka

oh yes! that's what I was trying to say as well, my English fails me, thank you by the way for your long comments all the time, I love to read them, clears things sometimes even for me (who watched couple times and reading manga now)

pontius copilot

"Can Kanjuro make a boat?" Well yeah, I mean... he can. Its just... I mean the whole thing about boats is them being in contact with the sea, and that's usually not a winning combo with devil fruits lmao

Veritas

That's not the only issue necessarily. His ink gets destroyed by water.

DiamonDust

Yeah, I would agree with that logically speaking. Bellamy had a sort of pride he displayed that indicates he may be unlikely to simply join right after the events of Dressrosa. It is hard to say Bellamy is always logical though, I still think him not switching sides or just leaving was questionable logic at best. He acts according to his principles, but who's to say it hadn't been long enough since the Doflamingo fight that he would want to join? All we know is he wouldn't swap sides in the middle of a fight, he might be fine doing so days later. If Oda wanted to make it happen we know Luffy can also be VERY persuasive when he wants someone on his crew. There are any number of ways Bellamy's character direction could have gone (even up into the present), but Oda simply chose to have him be his own man separate from the Straw Hats. I think him openly admitting to himself that he admired Luffy more than anyone and Luffy calling him his friend already indicated him joining was a possibility. He is also fairly strong, so he'd be useful. I would not have wanted him to join, but I can see exactly why Jack wants him to join. I think it's natural to also feel bad for the guy since he has nowhere to go now and no comrades to stick with. His life's dream of serving Doffy was basically torn to shreds in the most painful way possible.

DiamonDust

Aww, thank you that's so kind of you to say! 😭 I am just an anime nerd who is passionate about my favorite shows haha. Yeah you basically said what I said about the citizens being suspicious. What you said actually reminded me that they go to the port at night and how that would be the obvious primary reasoning behind the rule, so I enjoyed reading what you said too. My first answer would have been to assume that rule was just to keep them alienated from the rest of the population so they can't cause any trouble, but that's just a bonus to the more important reason you gave. I mainly just wanted to add the detail that you were not completely sure of - that Kyros was not brainwashed to obey and go to the port at night like the other toys since Kyros ran away before Sugar could do her brainwashing on him.

Umar Baig

So true with the sound effects😂😂

The words being added onto the ends of sentences are called Honorifics and are very important in the Japanese language, it's the same reason Animal Crossing characters do that.

Wesley Owens

They're honorifics, just like -san and such, people speaking Japanese sometimes add words to the ends of their sentences like this irl even when they're not necessary just because the language allows it.

DiamonDust

I'm fairly certain they are not considered actual honorifics, though I wouldn't know what to call them besides verbal tics. Honorifics are specifically suffixes and prefixes used to customize how you are speaking to a specific person when you refer to them, or to convey a certain tone with certain honorific verb forms. You don't just end every sentence with "san".
