Mike Drop

Judging from the thumbnail. I will enjoy this reaction.

Ant

Oh lord here we go T^T

Conor Murphy

Good there’s the thumbnail I was expecting

Mel Jaimes

Well time to get your tissues ,cause we gonna look the same

canadian shnitzl

I still haven't recovered from seeing sanji go through all the shit he went through this arc. Truly heart breaking

heck

im on crunchyroll too, but for some reason on my side the episode is longer? episode 807. On jacks side it says 23:55 but on mine it says 24:04... will this mess up the sync?

heck

update: i was on the dub somehow, nevermind lol

Eddy

Whole cake island does things man frfr... Luffy is a dumbass but his emotional intelligence is unquestioned

TripleZed

there are loads of eyecatchers because these two episodes were a one hour special, also why there was no to be continued on 807

Ant

I always forget about the crazy eyecatcher usage in these two and the pretty nonsensical 807 but 808 always gets me good 🥲

Jarmel

Best two episodes in the series by far

Justin

Mayumi Tanaka the freaking goat!

DayDreamer

Theres still another sanji moment which comes not too long after this which fucks me up everytime

Monsieur Sanji

It's based on the fact that they played back to back so they spread out the episode over the hour. Eyecatchers usually sandwich a bunch of ads during the original release of episodes on TV

NurEinLostie

saying this when megumi ishitani exists is crazy

CeoOfSects

literally for all the good toei has done it doesn't mean anything because of the treatment of these two episodes

Jay P.

I love Luffy vs Sanji for so many reasons but more than anything, I love how it shows Luffy's growth. Where things got heated and everything escalated to a brawl with Usopp, I love that Luffy refused to go down that same route for Sanji. He puts it so well, "Why do I need Haki just to talk?"

erueka6

It's so messed up that after this it feels like a quadruple gut punch.

Saint Bonnie🎭™

🗣 808 & heartbreak 😤🔥 Oda hitting us with the Kanye references

Dasha

This is the moment I thought things can’t get worse for Sanji 😀

Azael Santacruz

So ... about the 6 eyecatchers in total and 807 not having the "To be continued... endcard, 🤓☝️ that's because this was aired as a 1 hour long special episode ... so i guess why they had to put that many eyecatchers to cover for the 60 min airing on tv 🤓☝️

Azael Santacruz

And also, did you catch Luffy statement at the end? ... he will stay there STARVING to death unless he eats something coming from Sanji ... when we know HOW IMPORTANT is not letting anyone starve to sanji ... imagine his own captain Man we knew Oda liked to troll sanji, but this whole arc went waaay to far: - His father is being threatened to be killed at Baratie - His hands potentially being blown up if he even tries to do something "sketchy" (we know how important those are for him for cocking) - Him trying to protect his crew from being killed by an emperor because the position he was forced to be put in - And now his own captain is gonna starve to death to show him how much does he need and trust him bro what does anyone do in that situation D: my man is being put in like 4 different check mates 😭😭😭

Sceptic Llama

ITS FINALLY HERE! Time to cry everyone

Jarmel

I’m caught up and that’s why I said by far next episode with that guy doing that thing at that place and couple episodes with those guys fighting beat these two episodes

pink blooky

i watch in dub (already watched the whole series in sub, just rewatching) so the dub is always 3ish seconds behind his timer

Cleric7

there were so many eyecatchers because they aired both episodes as an hour long block

Nebby

been surpassed tbh

Afro D. Jack

I called the next thumbnail, I knew jack would be crying. 🤣🤣🤣

Nikolas Hogan

and thats why zoro didnt come. zoro wouldve started fighting sanji to defend.

Azael Santacruz

no he wouldn't, and this argument is very boring this many years later ... luffy would have told him to shut up and do nothing just like he did to nami, and zoro would have follow his captain orders like he always does.

Jay P.

It's been a while and please correct me if I'm wrong but the episodes aired on the same day as the Ultra instinct episodes right? Because I remember that weekend being quite the treat with anime episodes.

Zoro9978

Azael Santacruz you are right

Promanex(Alex)

bro skipped water 7 to came up with this conclusion

Promanex(Alex)

i think it was during the time of tokyo Olympics, that's why they had to combine two episodes into one so technically that was one episode and they put in extra eyecatchers for the ad break for the Olympics.

chrisis

I think this is probably my favorite luffy/sanji moment ever. "No matter how many times you kick me, you're the one that gets hurt", luffy's ability to empathize with someone and understand what they need to hear can never be understated. Goda does it once again. Also Mayumi Tanaka's voice acting is so real and raw its insane.

DiamonDust

He has grown emotionally. but it was also way different this time. With Usopp it was an actual very serious argument where the duel was perhaps necessary to resolve Usopp's feelings, but this entire situation was just a charade and fighting back against Sanji really had no meaning since there was no difference in ideologies. Luffy knows Sanji feels the same way he does already, but that his hands are tied. So instead, he just takes the beating to prove to Sanji that no matter what happens he will take Sanji back. It's beautiful writing and one of the best scenes in One Piece.

DiamonDust

Zoro is the last person on the crew who would interfere with this. Luffy probably wouldn't even have to ask him to not interfere, cause Zoro would see through Sanji instantly as well and understand the purpose of that fight for both of them.

DiamonDust

I never realized how legendary this episode was, or this arc. I have never rewatched this arc specifically because it was kind of a letdown when I had to watch it week to week with the slow pacing, but watching the episodes at a much faster rate has made it incredibly compelling. The writing is beyond incredible. Luffy sees through Sanji's charade instantly. Instead of fighting Sanji, Luffy takes the beating to prove two things. One, that he knows Sanji doesn't mean any of what he said and that he knows Sanji won't kill him. Two, that there is no universe in which Luffy leaves the island without him. Both of these things not only represent Luffy's will, but they are actions Luffy chose to make sure Sanji's guilt at his "betrayal" would lessen a bit. Sanji's resolve to attack Luffy so desperately was equally compelling. As Jack said, Sanji is begging for Luffy to leave internally. I cannot even imagine how soul crushing it must have been for Sanji to do that to Luffy. Sanji was fighting to sacrifice himself and protect the Strawhats. It feels very similar to Robin in Water 7, only Sanji took the fight upon himself to protect Luffy and Nami from retaliation by the Vinsmokes. Even though Luffy wouldn't leave, by beating him into submission he still protected Luffy and Nami from the Vinsmokes. Sanji also ensured Luffy survived by fighting Luffy himself. Now the Vinsmokes are convinced that ties have been cut and won't attack the Straw Hats needlessly.

Azael Santacruz

Another reason on why i believe Luffy lets Sanji continue to kick him, is because probably he knows sanji can't do anything and feels very frustrated and a lot of anger for the situation he's being put in ... so he lets him take out all of his anger on him ... cuz he can take it, similar on how zoro took luffy's pain on thriller bark

TripleZed

there were no olympics in 2017 lol

Meli_belli

It was also Sanji the one who told luffy that he needed to keep his cool and think about the words he says in the Usopp situation. So the lesson he learned from Sanji+that situation directly resulted in this "duel" not escalating further
