At least Jack didn't make fun of her eye before the backstory, can you imagine? 😂 Jokes aside, Pudding is a sweet girl at her core and a fantastically written character. She was in a horrible situation where everyone treated her like a circus freak. No friends or anyone to love her, rejected even by her own birth mother. It's beyond abusive to subject a child to something like that, so of course she ends up like this. Big Mom's crew is just a cult that brainwashes her children if you think about it, and Pudding is a victim of that. The fact that she snapped out of that mentality instantly as soon as she recieved a compliment convinces me that she was always a good person deep down. She was desperately hoping someone would see her for who she really was rather than just her outward appearance, but she never expected that to actually happen or for that person to be Sanji. So instead she chose to embrace evil to cope with that pain. It's a testament to Oda's writing to make us 180 this hard on a character in such a small amount of time. Jack was actually saying he wanted her to die not long before this 💀. A big theme of this arc is the depth of Sanji's kindness despite what happened to him as a kid and his horrible family, and this just once again shows how purehearted he is despite his comedically pervy tendencies. He chooses to forgive rather than to hate.
