My boy is cultured I know he would still hit after the reveal🙏 but we’ll see

joaokappa

happy new year jack!

Log

I love Kiku, she got transported 20 years into the future and got the mission to go undercover to get intel, saw the perfect opportunity to socially transition and took it lmao

Also since you asked what kappas are, those are yōkai, in Japanese folklore they’re said to inhabit rivers and have turtle-like characteristics (kappas are so famous that ninja turtles are based of them and even got referenced in Harry Potter) don’t forget this it’ll come in handy on a later episode of DanDaDan btw 🙏✨

Queen was so scared of Big Mom that even Toei couldnt possibly drag that scene out. One of the quickest courses of action I've seen in the whole anime.

Starting the new year off right

Concerning kappa, they are yokai (Japanese folklore creatures). The thing with Wano is that it's so Japan-centric that Oda doesn't get much time to explore the small things, they just exist in the background. So far, most of the creatures they ride have been some type of yokai i.e. komainu (Otama's dog), basan (Kinemon's recent ride) and the kirin (Hawkins' ride). The other thing is that since Wano is so isolated, they aren't aware of what everyone else considers common and what's unique to them. That's why the plan to use Brook to get food and offerings works and why everyone thinks devil fruits are some sort of magic. Typically, whenever there's something that's out of the ordinary, people in Wano just go straight to believe it's some sort of divine intervention. Also makes sense why everyone fears Kaido and Orochi, individuals with devil fruits that embody the pinnacle of Japanese mythology. In other news, Happy New Year.

kawamatsu joins the fight !! river of retribution looked so fire bro what an introduction

kiku is trans

Malady Quarter

Kiku is the same person she was before you found out her biological gender. We will get to her backstory, don't worry.

Waywatcher Fireson

Yep, Kiku is a dude. No, the subtitles will not acknowledge this ever again. Lol.

Fae

When it comes to Kiku and another character that you will meet eventually, go with how Luffy addresses them. Luffy uses she/her for Kiku because yes she is trans. The other character, people refuse to get it right because they cant get past appearances. Just look to Luffy and how he talks to them. plz plz plz.

Gary Bloodworth

i got that pic for ya Jack, and posted it in the discord

Luck64

end of next week gonna be peak again cant wait

Luck64

the other character is because Oda said they are what they are

Fae

Your comment is vague and confusing, so if you agree with me I'm sorry, but if you disagree.. Who do you think wrote everyone using he/him?? Fucking oda did..

Luck64

Sorry you don't understand

Shoko

i just realized when the anime continues, you will be done with wano and you will catch up fast... which means we will have one episode a week from you htueghe which is so weird

Waywatcher Fireson

He's not. He's a male who claims to have the heart of a woman.

Waywatcher Fireson

Incorrect. Kiku is a man who says his heart is a woman.

DiamonDust

"Go with how Luffy adresses them". In Japanese, the source language, Luffy adresses them with neutral gendered pronouns. You seem to not be aware that Japanese as a language does not use gendered pronouns to refer to other people like english does. You're essentially relying on a random crunchyroll translators opinion of what the character's pronouns are supposed to be. That's not anything factual. However, whatever Luffy refers to her as would be irrelevent in the first place, because assuming she is not trans she would still be fine with "she" or "him" pronuns. She would accept "she" since those would likely be her true pronouns, and she would accept "he" because she is roleplaying as Oden who is male. It's just acting. It doesn't seem likely at all that she actually sees herself as male. I say it is open to intepretation if she is trans, and fans should refer to her how they want. It is not really currently possible to prove if she is trans or not trans, though I would say the evidence strongly points toward her not being trans. That being said, Kiku is obviously canonically trans, but with Yamato it is unlikely that she is trans due to Yamato's vivre card saying she is female and Kiku's saying she is trans. Yamato does not seem to care about her gender identity at all, she just wants to roleplay Oden. She does not dress like a man or otherwise exhibit any behaviors that you would expect from someone who is trans. In fact, she dresses in feminine clothing. She never talks about her gender in any capacity aside from its relation to Oden himself. Oden's gender is male, so she roleplays as a male. Oda's trans characters are all blatantly trans... nobody ever questions if Kiku is trans because Oda wrote her to obviously be trans. Same with the Okama. But with Yamato he introduces her as "Kaido's daughter" from the get go, and the reason seems quite clear. Not trying to start a war here, but it's just not correct to say that Yamato is canonically trans and ask reactors to gender her how you see fit. Please respect the source material, and the reactor. We really should not even be telling Jack how to refer to her, it should have been his interpretation if he wanted to use "he" or "she" and there would be nothing wrong with whatever he chose since Yamato herself would certainly not care either way.

DiamonDust

@Waywatcher Fireson "claims" to have the heart of a woman? No, she does have the heart of a woman. Trans people are real lmao. The correct way to word this that seems to be eluding you is that Kiku is a woman who is biologically male. Was that so hard?

Waywatcher Fireson

@DiamonDust If Kiku is male, then Kiku is a man. He believes his heart is a woman. Doesn't make him one. He's part of the Akazaya Kyuu-nin Otoko (Akazaya Nine Men). Trans is a delusion. I accept he believes he's a woman. I reject that it's true. Was that so hard?

Fae

blah blah blah, losers just love going balistic on refusing to call yamato he/him. Piss off loser.

Connor Parra

it is true, no its not hard to accept the truth that kiku is a woman who transitioned from a man, facts dont care about your feelings cry me a river
