HOT TAKE: I think Jack should do a feet cam

Azzylito

Hot take, watching whole cake island weekly was so horrible, It made me stop watching the anime for months

Levin

another HOT TAKE: I think people shit on Momo too much for being a crybaby. Luffy is a big crybaby too when he was young, especially in regards to his fear of heights. Bro was held up by Kaido by throat over Oden Castle. I'd be scared af of heights too if each time I saw a long drop and remembered that chungus ass demon's face.

AllyCat

Hot Take: I really didn’t like the raid in Wano. I stopped watching the anime because of the pacing and I struggle with the anime still.

Boxx_Boxxxx

Hot take: After Luffy beat Katakuri, whole cake got really boring

Richely

HOT TAKE: fishman island was the worst arc of One Piece, so bad that the studio itself realized it and made a remake, shortened by half

Daniel Ayala

I don’t think that’s a hot take

José Lima

Koby's character is kinda trash

Maximus

Sanji is getting dunked on by toei is sad , whole cake sanji is never coming back😔

Saint Bonnie🎭™

Hot take: Giants are overrated, they’re basically oversized fodder. Always getting one shotted/embarrassed. all Dorry & Brogy feats should upscale Mr. 3

chopchop

What? 😭 871 is where Luffy beats katakuri, Whole cake ends 877 that's 6 episodes where quite a bunch happens more than the 20+ slog repetitive episodes when Luffy and Katakuri were actually fighting

Karatsuki

Vegapunk IS Evil Bro literally guilt tripped Sentomaru into DYING for him just because he fed him until he climbed the ranks of marines

Karatsuki

Also he would burn half the world just for some research funds

Shawn Mason

There’s is no chance that luffy becomes king of the pirates in terms of the story currently.(egghead part 2) The true king of the pirates will be Buggy (98%) sure

Levin

I would agree but only for both the forest sequences and random WEDDING CAKE checkups imo, that shit had been losing my mind although the final fight with Cracker was kinda gas

Shawn Mason

The only reason people think zoro is so much stronger because of the disrespect the anime does to Sanji ( Zoro is stronger but it’s not as big a gap as people think)

Monkgo

Nah that is just fact

chopchop

Wano (specfically the raid portion) has overall horrible writing that gets called peak because of hype moments - Apparently dynamite is the most lethal weapon in one piece because we were fighting 2 Yonko's yet neither of them caught a single body during the raid. -Big Mom felt like she was there because Oda decided she needed to get defeated this arc so she was nerfed and fought Kid and Law despite having bulit up beef against Luffy since FMI -Yamato is a BAD character nothing in the arc would've changed if this character didn't exist. - The Tobi Roppo 💀

Richely

i have friends who likes it

الوليد Waleed

ANOTHER HOT TAKE: Luffy, Zoro and Sanji are stronger than any other member of the worst generation

Takeo Ryuu

Usopp has more character development through the series than most of the strawhats, and most people just read each of his strongest moments as weak moments without actually taking the time to understand the context.

Takeo Ryuu

I actually have a lot to say about this but I wanted to leave the take itself as a separate comment. Here's why I think this though: In Dressrosa, he ran away because he FORGOT about Robin's existence. There was no real reason for him to fight, remember he also forgot about all the Tontattas that transformed into toys as well. From his perspective, there were just a few random Tontattas, a group of people that he tricked, that were beat up and calling for his help. And he still eventually made the choice to turn around anyway. People also forget Usopp has seen Trebol's power at this point, and Trebol was someone only Law could defeat (and probably Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji, but still, he was WAY out of Usopp's league). In Wano, the moment where he wants Nami to lie about her conviction to Luffy, as others have mentioned, it's specifically because she's like his best friend on the crew and also not himself. It's extremely obvious that if it were Usopp in that situation, he wouldn't have lied despite the danger, just like he stood up for Luffy in Alabasta. But when it's a crewmate, he's always been shown to be more practical about the situation than headstrong. To be honest, the only crew member I see who would actually PREFER that Nami die for nothing just to stand up for Luffy is Zoro. I do tend to agree that post-timeskip made it so that individual crew members get less screen-time and especially less fights, but I also think it's quite clear that Oda isn't a "Pair each person with an equal fighter" type writer. I think Oda did this in the beginning of the series because it's a Shounen trend (Alabasta, Enies Lobby) but I think it's a strength of his writing that not every Straw Hat member is there to fight, but instead have different roles based on their strengths. They are all competent enough in a fight, but there are clearly "main fighters" and "members who can fight if they have to" in the crew. Though Robin's fight in Wano was amazing, I also think it's nice that in general Robin doesn't HAVE to fight. She's been fighting by herself her entire life, I think it's totally okay for her to get a break to just focus on history and spending time with friends. Even in the Enies Lobby example, Usopp is the only member of the crew who actually DOESN'T get a one on one fight. And it's a good thing- because it shows what Usopp's role actually is as a crew member. He feels like he doesn't belong because he can't stand up in 1v1 fights, but the truth is he doesn't need to. His strengths lie in support and intelligence. And that is shown perfectly in Enies Lobby, where he can't fight a single CP9 member but still saves the day. Don't get me wrong, I think Usopp COULD get more moments that show off his other skills, but I think that's also true of all Straw Hat crew members except the strong trio and Nami. I just think it's a little ridiculous to believe that Usopp has gone backwards in character development when the entire point of his character is that you don't HAVE to be strong to be helpful. So I don't think Oda did Usopp "dirty" in Wano, I just think Usopp had to make way for other characters to shine for a bit. We're now in Elbaph, and I can't spoil anything, but there is plenty of time for Usopp to get his moments now. Wano had too many characters and important moments to have time for every Straw Hat to shine individually.

Hot take: akainu is a fraud he got washed by stage 4 cancer white beard kizaru> akainu aka chair boy

Kameha

literally just made a vid on this bc of all the braindead comments I get but ENEL IS THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN ONE PIECE. Yes, more than Fraudhawk and Ace. Bro got BODIED by Pre-Timeskip, Pre-Gear, Pre-Haki, Pre-EVERYTHING LUFFY. Yes, I know he is made of rubber so he was able to tank Enel's attacks and hit him. However, any other character with armament haki can hit Enel. BRO HAS ADVANCED OBSERVATION HAKI (future sight) SO HOW WAS HE GETTING PIECED BY LUFFY??? BC HES A FRAUD. People in my comments have genuinely said he's Admiral level. He has no armament haki so he can't even beat smoker. truly embarrasing. Also shanks is stronger than mihawk.

Takeo Ryuu

Not a hot take, just true

Takeo Ryuu

The studio remade it because the original adaptation of the manga was terrible, not because the manga itself was terrible. Why would the studio remake that arc specifically if it was a bad arc? That's like the biggest waste of resources ever. I never understand how people don't like Fishman, it's literally so good.

Boxx_Boxxxx

It took me a while to get through those episodes

TripleZed

observation haki should not exist, its way too OP yet is almost never used except for katakuri and ocassional flexing. like for example, luffy, sanji and zoro should technically never be wasting time searching for someone since they should be able to detect them using their haki yet it is only used like that for a sanji hearing a woman cry joke.

Takeo Ryuu

Honestly not really that much of a hot take. For all the animation upgrades and cool art-style stuff, the actual pacing of the anime in Wano and during the raid is some of the worst in the entire series. I was up to date with the manga when the raid was happening and it was some of the most hype-shit ever. But watching the anime with Jack has been painful, so I totally get struggling with it.

Takeo Ryuu

I feel like any take about the anime versions of arcs being bad is just true and not really that hot of a take. The anime version of One Piece is so insanely inferior to the manga and also just in general compared to other anime adaptations. It's genuinely sad. There are nearly the same amount of anime episodes as chapters, which is just mind-blowing.

Evan Lin

Fishman Island is 'narratively' one of the best written arcs in One Piece for its portrayal of real life themes, but it simply struggles in other ways that makes people misunderstand the meaning of it. I wasn't a fan of it until I saw Merphy Napier's review of the arc and didn't realize how well it actually conveys real life racism issues, and characters draw very similar resemblances to real life historical figures. If you look at American History, Queen Otohime strikingly resembles almost one-to-one to Martin Luther King Jr., and Fisher Tiger resembles Malcom X. Both Queen Otohime & Martin Luther King Jr. both had polar opposite ideals, but were mostly both correct in their own ways on their view of racism. Fishman Island's themes become legendary once you begin to analyze the parallels between that arc & real life. If you watch/read & analyze the arc more like a novel than a goofy cartoon, the arc begins to show its true strength.

canadian shnitzl

The ladies that sanji trained with during his timeskip powercreeps most of the Naruto shinobi, especially Ivankov

Tony

Three hot takes that are related: Whole Cake Island is a way better arc than Wano. Better world building, better character development (and character writing in general), better pacing (even though it’s still bad at times), AMAZING story and use of interconnected themes (family, belonging, sacrifice, relationship with food, love, etc.), better music. Wano was good but had like twice the number of episodes and characters as it should have had. Big Mom is a way better yonko than Kaido. She is written way better and actually has a lot of super interesting aspects to her character, way more interesting and creative powers, way funnier, way cooler, and just more memorable in general. Big Mom should not have been in Wano. Or at least Oda should have found a way to get her OFF Wano before the raid and saved her for being the/a big villain of Elbaf.

Evan Lin

Vegapunk is a very morally grey character for sure, but I wouldn't say he's straight up evil. He's more complex than anything, as he'll do anything for the name of science. I'm 100% not even even gonna defend him either, as it was HIS own greed (literally!) that caused the egghead incident... But the rest of his own aspect satellites (even evil itself) are still shown to be allies with the Straw Hats & focus on getting the Stella Vegapunk out.

Evan Lin

I actually sadly agree with this. I really hope that Oda scales up the power of generic giant pirates, as they just seem to be giant targets that cause a tiny bit of damage before getting knocked out.

Saint Bonnie🎭™

Counter hot take: usopp had the most character regression. Everyone in the weak trio besides him had countless moments and power ups post timeskip. Strawhats are literally a yonko crew now and he still the same weakling coward he was 2 years ago. His only moments of courage/formidability were in none-canon movies. Unlocked observation haki in dressrosa (never used it since) his only fight/win post timeskip was against sugar.. and his best performance till this day was against his captain. In conclusion: liability.

TripleZed

i think people get the themes and symbolim but it doesnt make the arc structure, pacing and everything else surrounding the arc more likeable which is what ultimately drags it down a lot

Karatsuki

Thats the point though its a hot take and I stand by it

Azael Santacruz

i agree a lot on this, the only 2 things that "save" wano for me its just that it has more lore of the overall history Oden-Roger flashbacks, and "better" fights at onigashima, but in everything else that you mention WCI > Wano, making it on avarage a better arc than wano

Nate Landi

Hot take: Garp is a coward and contradicts everything we’ve been told about the D clan. The Ds are supposed to be enemies of the gods (the celestial dragons) but garp serves the military who serve the dragons. He also works for the same organization that supports slavery and mass murder. Instead of trying to change the system, he merely complies and serves obediently. And then he tried to get his son and grandson in the navy. He shouldn’t be a conqueror, a D, or in the monkey family.

tha_hermit

being a shanks fan is kinda lame honestly

srandear

Hot Take: Sabo>>Ace

Majkl 10v

I dont know if it is a hot take but I think Shanks and Garp are 99% dying soon in the story for plot progresion for example blackbeard most likely will kill both of them 💀

JayElJay

Toei did sanji dirty

Takeo Ryuu

Countless moments and power ups? Are you serious? Nami has had literally two: the new clima-tact literally MADE by Usopp, and Zeus. Chopper has had literally none. He showed off his control of Monster Point after time-skip and since then he has done nothing but continue to use Monster Point and other than that he spams Kung-Fu point. Meanwhile, Usopp not only has used his pop-greens practically to make a boat, shown off the ability to use powered ammunition, but also unlocked OBSERVATION haki. Nobody else on the crew except the big three and Jinbei have haki EXCEPT for Usopp. Him turning around to save a group of Tontattas that he barely knew or cared about, against the insane odds of Trebol, one of the strongest members of Doflamingo's crew, and Sugar, one of the most dangerous members of Doflamingo's crew, is INSANE courage. Regardless, Usopp was never meant to be a character that became like Luffy/Zoro/Sanji, because it's simply unrealistic. He's going to ALWAYS be a scaredy-cat, the same way Chopper and Nami are, not because he's a weakling but because he's a normal human being, not some insane superhero like the strong trio. His strengths don't lie in brute force and bravery, but in deception and persistence. His character development was never MEANT to be some stupid cliche and unrealistic transformation into a confident manly man, and to think that was going to happen is to simply not understand Oda's writing style. Liability is just the most insane take ever, given that without Usopp, the crew would have died or failed many times over both pre and post timeskip. You say Yonko crew as if becoming a Yonko crew is supposed to power you up or something. One Piece may be a Shounen series but that doesn't mean Oda has to defy logic and common sense to fit your favorite cliches. Shanks is a Yonko and lost his arm to a level 1 sea monster. Whitebeard is a Yonko and ultimately died from literal gun shots (I realize this is an understatement but nearly everything you said was just as nitpicky so at this point who cares), Blackbeard is a Yonko and his ENTIRE crew got rolled by Boa Hancock while he was fighting her, which is straight up insane. Hancock wasn't even a warlord anymore at that point, she was a nothing. Titles don't mean shit in One Piece. Luffy was named the fifth emperor but during that time, he didn't have advanced Conquerer's Haki yet or advanced Armament and literally got one shot by Kaido. Meanwhile, we've seen that Whitebeard has commanders and units under those commanders, many of which are basically the same strength as a fodder marine. Same with Shanks, who has an entire alliance of straight up weaklings who would have gotten one-shot by Kid. Stop power-scaling and start paying attention. Usopp is a great character, not a strong one. Straw Hats don't qualify as crew members because of their strength, but because of their determination, dreams, and other important roles on the crew outside of fighting. In Enies Lobby, even ignoring Usopp's biggest moment, later in the arc, Usopp literally defeats a vice-admiral that was about to wipe the floor with Zoro. Yeah, remember the rust guy? Zoro loses a sword then is seconds away from becoming rust himself until Usopp saves his ass. Same exact thing with Perona, the entire crew gets squad wiped by Perona except for Usopp, who defeats her. When Baby 5 and Buffalo almost escape with Caesar in Punk Hazard, who is that stops them? Usopp and Nami, and if we're being honest, mostly Usopp. He captures Caesar with Sea-Prism handcuffs from insanely far away with a perfect shot. I could go on, but I really don't think I need to. Nobody in One Piece suffers from character regression, Oda just doesn't like to arbitrarily power-up characters or randomly change their personalities for no reason other than fan-expectation. Timeskip happened, two entire years apart, and every single Straw Hat stayed the exact same in personality. Is that a lack of character development? No. It's just Oda telling you that spending two years training isn't going to suddenly turn you into a different person. And also, social dynamics and such are typically determined by WHO you are with, not just who you are.

Zoro9978

Hot take: Monster point chopper is actually really really hot and hear me out.... (Kidding)

felix11

hot take: garp is past his prime, luffy is just getting into his prime, and dragon is in his prime. He's easily top 3 in the verse

Azael Santacruz

my hot take is that Zoro is the most overhyped and overrated character in the series, and the least interesting strawhat from all ... his backstory is the "simplest" one of the entire crew (which is not bad) but it doesnt make him interesting... (Usopp is simple as well, but at least he has a reunion pending with Yasopp) Zoro's only purpose in the adventure is to be strong and defeat the 2nd strongest oponent, and that's it ... yeah he might be the "loyest one" to Luffy of the crew ... but what difference does that make? everyone is loyal to luffy and will never betray him ... in ploth relevance in most of the arcs he doesn't have any important actions outside of fighting, everyone else helps to move the plot in some way or another more than zoro has Basically everyone just likes him because he is stong and "edgy" and want to "be like him" but he doesnt bring anything special to the crew or the story ... u could replace him with any other strong character to just do the fighting and the story will develop in almost the exact same way ... even Oda is aware of this ... and thats why he didn't even care to give him more "development" on Wano just like he did to Sanji on WCI, it was the perfect instance to make him important, and instead Oda just decided to put his family background on an SBS's 🤡

kayla •ᴗ•

hot take: add a hand cam to it 🏌🏽‍♀️

mike rojas

kaido is still stronger than gear 5 luffy

KaidoKarp

Robin is a fraud post-ts

Rico

Hot take: charlos > shanks

milk

CROCOMOM IS 100% TRUE also i think that zeus a fraud fr

Amphyprion

Post timeskip Zoro is the most boring/worse strawhat. His whole shtick is being stoic and that's it, even Law does it better. Pre timeskip he was at his best when he acted like a big brother to Chopper

Ender Craft7393

Themes and symbolism don't suddenly make the story good lmao. Punk Hazard is a dissection on power and the types of it, and it's one of the most boring arcs ever

Levy

My thoughts exactly.

CrypticNerds

HOT TAKE: Admirals > Yonko in terms of strength.

QuarkUI

Usopp will become the strongest character

Umar

Shanks is evil since we saw him meet the gorosei and possibly talked about Luffy and his fruit when saying he wanted to talk about a specific pirate

Noogai

Foxy would low-diff Kizaru if he actually locked in since his power counters Kizaru's, in fact, with how creative Foxy was in his use of his devil fruit, he could probably body everyone if he had a bigger and less smooth brain.

Helmut Chachos

Apart from Luffy and Sanji, since timeskip, it feels like Oda gave up on the development of the mugiwara and their evolution in terms of writing. Usopp is basically useless since Dressrosa, Nami has her moments with Zeus but is still running from her enemies. Brook, except in whole cake, is useless and appears only to ask for panties and his bone jokes. Wano was supposed to be the arc for Zoro for his development but almost nothing new for him. I miss the crew on the sunny who has its moments like before...

Eduardo Juliani

30% of whole cake is big mom screaming cake

Zoro9978

Do you agree?

Ender

That is hardly a hot take

Ender

I don´t think that take is really hot

Harl0x

HOT TAKE : During Whole Cake Island Arc, I was looking forward to seeing Sanji and Pudding's moments more than the battle between Luffy and Katakuri

Log

Oda is great at what he does but he often struggles to make female characters as strong in combat as they should be in their respective situations, and that's the main reason why Tashigi for example isn't as compelling a character as she could be. It would be more interesting if she actually matched Zoro. The fact that women on opposite sides nearly always fight each other doesn't help.

Ender

Yeah, good way of looking at it. It is much deeper than the haters but I really do get their sentiment. I still believe in that Usopp will have a very great moment that turns shit around and then people will say it came out of nothing.

Ender

Hot take: Yamato is a woman

Lorper

Arcane is mid

srandear

HT: Kid ain't even mid..

I V

I don't like pulling this card but, as someone who's trans, I second the "Yamato is a woman" hot take. Unlike Kiku, Yamato isn't actually interested in identifying as another gender. Yamato is interested in being Oden. She's inspired by a specific individual and wants to carry the torch of their beliefs and ideals. Doesnt have anything to do with gender in her belief system. To top it off, Oda directly confirms this by introducing Yamato as "Daughter of Kaido" in her title card. And in the character info cards he makes, Yamato is labelled as a woman. From what I understand, because of Japanese language, Kiku is also refered to as male by birth sex, but Kiku's card is filled with the Japanese equivelant of trans descriptors. Kiku also speaks as a woman and uses female ways to introduce herself despite being a samurai who's supposed to use masculine introductions. Most of that isn't present with Yamato

srandear

Hot Take: Jack should play Jack when live action ll caught up to Zou

Krolliox

Hot take: Usopp is the worst Straw-hat, people only give him a pass because he's the "human" character on the group and use it as an excuse to forgive his crap, the whole "regular human" and being scared all the time was justifiable during pre-timeskip, and it was great, but after spending 2yrs on a island, surrounded by giant man eating bugs and plants, then trained by a hero, he should've stopped being a scary cat. He lied and manipulated the Tontatas, then left them to die, he only turned back because of the guilt in hearing their cries because the den den mushi was on, if it wasn't on he would've kept running, the whole toad oil scam that gave hope to Toko to cure her dad, not caring that Ulti was talking thrash about Luffy's dream, then saying he would do whatever it takes to survive, no matter how disgraceful it is, he's shit character. The only way to redeem himself is to die saving someone, that would fulfilled his dream in being a brave warrior of the sea, since he clings to life so much, to get the bravery to sacrifice himself to save someone.

Tfoil Hamma Dolo

Ussop should of stayed in water 7. I think he brings down chopper nami and brook. His gag and cowardice sets a bad example for chopper since they spend a lot of time together. And encourages nami to not grow in the same way.

Arend Flagpole

Hot take: Buggy has the best voice actor of the whole show and its not even close. Also maybe not that hot take 2: The comedy element of one piece fell off a cliff after thriller bark and hasn't delivered the same since.

A Sagge

Since my boy Usopp is getting dogged imma stand up for him. Usopp has always been labeled as “the coward” and a “liar” and any time he has shown courage - it ends up being a great moment and almost completely overshadows the 10+ episodes prior to that where he wouldn’t do a thing (example: dressrosa, bro literally became a god) So, I think Oda is about to pull the fattest redemption character arc for him near the end of the story. Oda has always had an idea of where he wants the story to go, since the very beginning. In a colored illustration from 2006, the straw hats are playing cards, seated around a table. This was from the time when Enies lobby was airing. In the illustration we can see some cards showing, scattered on the table. We can also see Robin’s and Sanji’s cards. (Robin looks like she’s holding a flush, although they are not playing poker. Sanji is mainly holding what looks to be Jacks and Queens) Only one of Usopp’s card is visible, facepalming with his other hand, he holds a “death card” or a “Joker” portrayed as a skull, with Sanji pointing at him. Long story short, I think Usopp is gonna go out in a blaze of glory. Honorably sacrificing himself, dying as a great warrior of the sea. Or Oda was trolling.

Rico Hoffmann

Hot take: Even tought Blackbeard may be stronger than many people in the new world i dont see how he has any chance in a fight with Shanks or any other "Haki man". Even current zoro could beat him up in my opinion.

Jordzkie

Hot take: Enies Lobby is the arc that made One Piece more interesting and famous. When Gear 2nd was introduced. It intrigue viewers to see his other gear He almost use against Blueno.

Nestfloh

From all straw heads: Nami powerspiked the most. Usopp/Chopper the least.

one piece is a biblical-quality narrative and could be used to teach people basic ethics and morality in lieu of traditional religious texts, with luffy functioning as the messianic figure to whom we are meant to aspire. it would be a simple enough task, when faced with a moral quandary, to ask your local straw hat for the relevant chapter and page citations to when luffy or his crew were in a similar situation and identify the proper course of action.

Star

HOT TAKE I think?? Pre time skip > post time skip every day. Sure we got peak animation now but it’s soo simple shonen now compared to before. I miss the more adventurous vibe we had before. The straw hats had better character development too. It just doesn’t feel the same later on. Still love both though.

Luis Cardona

I wouldn't consider this a hot take but feats mean absolutely nothing. People always like to bring up how X character blocked an attack from a much stronger character and that means that they could actually beat Y character cause they don't have the same feat. It gets annoying when people only use this to play down characters they don't like/have an agenda with or against. I wish Oda would have thrown in some panels of Chopper clashing with Kaido as a joke to see how people would spin it

Promanex(Alex)

Ace deserved to die, Usopp and Chopper can go they are useless. Luffy g5 makes him an unrelatable character because he was always destined for success because he has a god fruit instead of a dumb ass gum gum fruit. One Piece pre time skip is better than post time skip, post time skip are just flashier fighting and everyone is too overpowered especially Luffy Zoro and Sanji. And they no longer focus on the character writings of the main characters, they are more like side characters

Trijim

Hot Take: I think people are quick to blame Garp for not intervening, but anyone who's in the same position would find it difficult. Usopp is utterly useless as a crew member, he has very few shining moments and the only time he was an actual Strawhat Crew member was in STAMPEDE. The Usopp in STAMPEDE is what we should be getting. But he brings down the crew significantly and should of stayed in Water 7. Narratively speaking, Fish-Man Island and Hordy Jones are one of the best written in the series.

Trijim

I disagree. What made Enel dangerous was because how his Devil Fruit worked extremely well with his Observation Haki. His future sight wasn't anywhere near as good as Katakuri's, which is only a few seconds into the future. Enel's future sight is brief and he acknowledges that his "Mantra" isn't perfect; which could mean that he only see's images and not actual premonitions like Katakuri does. Luffy was throwing punches off walls to circumvent knowing where it would land. What make's him dangerous is that he can listen to everyone on the Sky Island, even from far away because of his "Mantra" and Devil Fruit ability. Also, I suppose the fight is a bit ironic as Enel had called himself a god, while Luffy is a member of the D Clan; which is the natural enemy of the Gods. However Enel is not admiral level. He definitely has potential to be Admiral level though.

EP

Eustas Captian Kid is an idiot and has a massive ego. Although I do like Kid and he is one of my favorite characters from the worst generation, it's hard to deny that he is stupid. After Wano his ego only skyrocketed because of his bounty increase and what he and Law did. Kid thought that he could take down an emperor by himself, so after Wano when Luffy, Law and Kid split up, Kid thought he could take down Shanks. Kid's ego was too big and he couldn't pull it of by himself, and while Luffy invaded two emperors territory he at least had the power and the crew to back him up. Kid and his crew are significantly weaker than the straw hats. Shanks for the entire series has been a person who has been talked highly about without really showing why he is an emperor of the sea. He put Kid in his place, Kid wasn't ready and he paid the price. Kid's attack was aimed at more people than just Shanks so Shanks was right to attack back. Kid was a cool character and it will be sad to see him gone, but I think that he made a huge mistake because of his ego.

Hot take:I believe the new One Piece remake WILL ruin the show. Yes pacing is abysmal but I believe that one piece has the highest of highs and lowest of lows. The wait is always worthwhile and The One piece will ruin that feeling of reward

TheEGGLord

Hot take:The whole klaboutermann thing (ship having a soul) should of been expanded on and been shown with other crews like in the Roger and whitebeard flashbacks in wano. A pirates ship is as or more important than their jolly Roger and would of been cool to see sunny "alive"

Zamasu Yo

This is gonna be interesting now

Hot take, I do not want this taking up a day of reactions for the week.

JackTheBus

Mondays and Tuesdays have always been off.

chrisis

Idk if this is a hot take but I believe Yamato should have joined the crew. I get why he stayed but he was literally waiting for Luffy the entire time and I feel like it would’ve made everything come full circle with Ace’s history in Wano. Seeing Yamato help Luffy realize the same dream as the man she read about in Oden’s journal and that Ace told him about as they talked over a fire. Peak.

Dyllan Egilson

Gear 4 was always mid — and Katakuri proved it. It looked cool at first, but Boundman’s clunky movement and 10-minute cooldown made it unreliable. Every major fight with Gear 4 required a reset or outside help just to stay in the game. Katakuri didn’t just match Gear 4 — he outclassed it. Luffy only won by improving Observation Haki, not by overpowering him. Snakeman was flashy, but Katakuri carried that fight emotionally and thematically. Gear 4 was a stepping stone, not a triumph.

Brook has one of the most overrated back stories in all of One Piece. A backstory has 3 necessary functions. 1) It recontextualizes the past, giving us new information on the past. 2) It is a standalone story with it's own emotional beats seperate from the story writ large. 3) It informs the character writing in the future. Now, let us look at how Brooks backstory fulfills these functions. To being with, it works great at recontextualizing the past. It informs us and gives us more meaning and information on Laboon's backstory. But what it fails at are the other two things. Firstly, Brook's backstory, while being a unique story, the emotional beats of it don't work without Laboon's backstory. Brook is more of a Laboon part2 then a Brook backstory. Secondly, and this is the most important, Brook's backstory does not inform his character writing in the future. What do I mean by this? Well, let's look at other, much better back stories. Zoro's backstory gave him his anxiety over strength. Having Kuina ripped from him, not in battle but in the most random and unpreventable way, gives him severe anxiety over his strength. He drives and pushes himself, he takes Luffys pain, and traidn obsessively. All in order to never not be strong enough again. Or what about Robin? Robin's backstory informs literally all of her moves. Her complete disregard for her life, her side switching, every action in Water 7. Sanji's backstory (both the first and the second) are the reasons he is suicidally self-sacrificing. Why he left to go marry Pudding, why he always puts his body first, why he tried to sacrifices himself to Kuma instead of Zoro. Sanji does not believe his life to be valuable enough to anyone, he has internalized his familial abuse. This is why the "robin-swan, come save me" moment was so important for him. Sanji no longer is self-sacrificial, he has found value in his life, and he is willing to trust his crew mates to save him. Now, let's look at Brook. What exactly is informed by Brooks backstory? That because he spent so much time alone, he has no concept of social boundaries. That's literally the only difference. And you know what makes it so much worse, Oda chooses to write this by having him: fart and burp while eating once, and then for the entire rest of the future, he simply has brook ask for panty shots. Wow, what great character writing. This is such a good backstory, it barely functions emotionally by itself and then doesn't even affect Brook's behavior in any way besides asking for PANTY SHOTS. Truly, a 3/10 incredibly overrated backstory, and the only reason it gets a 3 is because Laboon.

Oooh I got another hot take, Armament and Observation Haki shouldn't be a thing but Keep CoC, or at least Armament Haki should not be a thing since it introduced a lot of plot holes in how devil fruits work like how Law's Shambles won't work on Kaido and Big Mom due to their "strong Haki" when armament was explained to just be an armor that let's you touch Logia DF users. And the answer as to how they would counter Logia users, there are the Sea Prism cuffs, bullets, weapons, and such. Then there is also the natural counters like water for Crocodile, rubber for Enel, fire for Mr. 3, and so much more. Just plain knowledge would work against all of the Logia type users. With how infamous or well known certain pirates/marines are, there should be people that must've found out a certain weakness and probably spread the news so that someone would take them down.

Crocodile is Luffy`s mom, unless proven otherwise

The strength of the Admirals makes no sense. Outside of Garp there are no sub-admiral navy soldiers remotely close to Admiral level, which is why the new ones had to be selected through a draft or whatever, but where exactly are we finding these random soldiers with power levels rivaling that of the emperors or yc1s at the very least. They are given overpowered devil fruits to add to their threat level, which worked well early on in the story and actually makes narrative sense, but now that haki has become as prominent as it is how is Kizaru, with no passion or willpower, tanking Acoc gear 5 attacks with ease? Surely he shouldn't have the haki to do that, he only does because he needs to in order to keep the navy as a somewhat threatening entity within the final saga.

Ever since the time skip, most of the strawhats have gone through some amount of flanderization (when a character's traits become simplified and exaggerated). All of Luffy's fights ending because he pubched harder or had better haki, Zoro is too dramatic and brooding all the time, Nami is way too sexualized, Usopp is still extremely cowardly, Sanji (in the anime) is EXTREMELY pathetic every time he shares screen time with a woman, Chopper has been reduced to a living plush doll, and the only forms he takes are kung fu and monster point, and they're both incredibly lame, Robin..., Franky isn't building a bridge out of rubble or a staircase in mid-air like he was on Thriller Bark, Brook is asking to see panties 50% of the time he's on screen, and Jinbei...

Pre timeskip Vivi was not that great. The character was presented to have this deep connection to the crew almost immediately and i just didn't see it. She was weak and everything she tried to do straight up failed for most of the time we saw her. When she didn't join the crew i felt nothing, because i did not feel she was a good fit for the crew and the fact that we instead got Nico Robin was such a blessing. She is a much better constructed character with a story that is compelling. She is not a fighter(in pre timeskip) but the powers she brings in the strength of her character and her arkeological abilities is heavily underrated. But back to the topic, Vivi just feels so lackluster. She wants to protect her kingdom, but her actions are so dumb and weak it makes it really hard for me to root for her.

Usopp is probably actually Blackbeards kid and Blackbeard stole his courage or something when he was a baby and Yassop just filled in as Godfather or something. Just look at how Blackbeard looked in the Roger flashbacks and how Usopp looked on the Bowin Islands when he was fat =P They are almost identical.

Zoro vs sanji is zoro winning extreme diff, not low, mid or even high. EXTREME

lucy

Zoro is closer to Sanji than he is to Luffy, not underrating or any agenda against ma boy Zoro, that's just how strong Luffy is. And the monster trio is LEVELS above the rest of the crew even Jimbe and Robin/Franky

Promanex(Alex)

Not really a hot take but, Moria is the best villain ever his parallels with Luffy is insane. Very similar personality, just Ying and Yang. Both wants to be the pirate king, both cares deeply about their crew mates (Moria for Absalom), both super laid back and chill at times and gets serious when their friends are hurt. His line delivery and face expression when talking about how the new world took everything from him including his old crew is one of the best in the story, he is basically a sad version of Luffy. Imagine everyone in Luffy’s crew died he would have became Moria in a twisted parallel world.

Ender Craft7393

Haki is willpower. You don't need haki (coa, coo, coc) in order to stop a devil fruit, as it's your willpower that stops it

hot take: i can take king, law, zoro, and shanks! (not in a fight)

TripleZed

dont agree about the destined for success because zunesha said its been 800 years since they heard the drums so clearly not everybody who eats the fruit can awaken it

let's be honest, who's lining up to father children with big mommy, can you even imagine it?

When Luffy and Zoro stepped away from black beard at Jaya, right before sky island Arc. They sayed: "Its not HE, its THEY", it feels like it is already common knowledge that balck beard got some kind of 2 hearts and/or two personalities. My take is that they just meant, that he is there with his Crew, that we could saw here and there in these chapters. That wasnt known of at this point.

Perfect Yarn

I think it's questionable whether Enel had Advanced color of observation, but future sight isn't the only advanced form of observation haki anyways. The calling out moves in advance thing feels more like an artifact of haki not being perfectly defined at that point in the series than a true feat to suggest ACOO

Fishman Island is an arc that I enjoy/appreciate in retrospect but when I'm actually sitting through it I feel bored/underwhelmed.

That Dragon may be related to the jaya people because of the red marks on his face. As far as I remember, Kalgara has the same red marks/tattoo. Their ancestry might be connected to the Ancient Kingdom that disappeared during the Void Century. Just a theory.

A lot of fans are complaining about Oda not killing any of the characters. For me, the story is good as it is but what do you think?

Kitty3545

Sanji post time skip has more character development than Zoro. (I like both characters but in terms of depth of character Sanji takes the cake).

DiamonDust

I think that it is exaggerated as a flaw, but TBH there are SOME deaths that probably should have just happened cause the characters that survived were too unimportant to actually have any continuing role in the narrative. Pell, Konis' Dad, Charlotte Moscato, other fake out deaths. Most fake out deaths would have been better as actual deaths. The only characters that had any potential business surviving were maybe the red scabbards depending on who you ask.

Zoro9978

Fine, I will admit that indeed, I was joking when I wrote it
